Destiny had surgery on Jan 28th, 2009. She had two parts to this surgery. The first is called a nissen fundoplication. This was done to make it so that Dest could no longer reflux. This is only done in severe cases of reflux. In Destiny's case, her reflux would cause her to stop breathing, give herself pneumonia, drop her heart rate, etc.The nissen fundoplication takes the top part of the stomach, wraps it around the bottom part of her esophegus, and stitches it there. It is meant to be permanent.

The second part of her surgery was a gastrostomy (g) tube placement. In her case, a button, or connector is surgically placed into her stomach, which involves sewing the stomach to the abdominal wall, cutting a hole in her stomach and abdomen, putting in the connector, and inflating a balloon that keeps it in place.  We do not have a definite amount of time that she will need the g tube. Currently she is unable to sustain herself without tube feedings at night.
