Mondays have been the victim of harsh discrimination.
We can all hum a few bars of Manic Monday in our head (compliments of The Bangles!).
H. Allen Smith said, "On Monday mornings, I am dedicated to the proposition that all men are created jerks." What a positive way to start the week, eh?
And the rest of us ... well, you know what you say on Mondays. I think: Six more days before we get Daddy home again. Five more days of cleaning and school work. Oh, Lord, give me patience to survive another week. Or .... my most common ... how can I be this tired when the week is only starting out?
Why Monday, though? Why not Tuesday? Or Thursday? Why is Monday singled out? Everyone loves Wednesday because it's "Hump Day." And Friday because it symbolizes the start of free time. Saturdays and Sunday are appreciated because they are the traditional off days. Tuesdays and Thursdays for some reason escape being stigmatized.
However, poor Mr. Monday is the victim of discrimination. All the other days end in "Y" also. Each day involves waking up, accomplishing some sort of task, and going to bed. Without Monday, we'd never have the opportunity to start off the week, nor would we have an excuse to get excited about Friday (lucky Mr. Friday), nor would we have all those wonderful 3-day weekends that include Monday (Memorial Day, Columbus Day, etc.).
So, I propose embracing today! Enjoy Monday!!!
