The benefit website is as follows: http://www.thelaciswiftfund.com/.
This is a link to the newspaper article about the family's story, which was published the day before the benefit: http://www.lowellsun.com/ci_12376904?source=rss_viewed.
This is such a sad story from my hometown police department. I am very close to many of the officers there, because of a previous job I had.
An officer and his wife lost one of their two daughters to neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer, in August 2007. Just a year later - almost to the day - the officer died unexpectedly in his home. His wife and living daughter came home to find him deceased in their basement.
The wife is now left in devastation and financial hardship, and the police department is holding a fundraiser on May 16th for her and her daughter, which will hopefully change their lives.
I am posting this here because I know that some fellow Cafemoms would do anything to help others in need, even if that just means spreading the word.
I am asking that we do all that we can do bring attention to this family and help in whatever way possible.
*** UPDATE AFTER THE FUNDRAISER!!! ***
The event was an overwhelming success! The two police officers who organized the fundraiser were so happy to see such a great turnout - hundreds of people showed up! There was food, drinks and desserts, raffles, a 50/50 drawing, a motorcycle giveaway, music, Carl Beane (the voice of Fenway) with the Red Sox 2004 World Series ring, and so much more. Close to $60,000 was raised for this family, and it will undoubtedly help them out tremendously. It was a fantastic evening for a good cause. It's so nice to see how much people are willing to help others in a time of need.
