I went to the optomatrist at Walmart last Thursday (Feb 19). I was given a script for new eyeglasses and referred to an opthamologist (an actual eye DOCTOR- MD). The optometrist had (finally) noticed a colored spot on my right iris. I and my family noticed it around when I was 15 or so... It was there 5 years ago when I went to the same guy for glasses the first time, but apparently it was smaller and he just thought it might be a pigment difference- which is normal. It started out as a tiny reddish speck that we thought was debris. Now it is MUCH larger and encroaching on my pupil.
The opthamologist thinks it may be a melanoma. That's right, skin cancer IN MY EYE. I have to see him every 60 days for a check up, to see if it is growing, and at what rate. It has a definite border (bad news) and is asymmetrical (bad news). If it grows ANY(which it has been doing), I will be referred immediately to an optic encologist for treatment. There may be one in Memphis, but he said I will more than likely be referred to Dallas, Tx.
Wish me luck.
There isn't alot I can do about it, so I am trying to just let it go. I am having enough stress and anxiety right now without this sort of news.
I had cancerous cervical cells through my last pregnancy and needed an emergency hysterectomy, but I was already pregnant, we just didn;t know and I carried my #4 with it growing inside me. My hysterectomy was 5 years ago, this Mothers Day.
