Today has been one deluge after another. Rain, more rain, thunder, louder thunder, lightning, and then more rain. This might not be bad if I didn’t have an overwhelmingly childish fear of loud thunder, any sort of lightning, and tornadoes. On the personal front, the afternoon has been rather stormy as well, with no reprieve in sight. At least the morning was filled with fellowship. Life’s storms are less frightening than the ones outside the window because I trust God to handle them. I need to trust more with the natural storms as well. However, I am recognizing that being hunched in bed, holding my 2 ½ pound Chihuahua who is no protection at all, and huddling under a blanket is not a proactive approach to dealing with fear and stress. What do you do when you have days when stress keeps right on raining? I’ve thought of several stress relieving options:
v Eat a chocolate bar
v Find the nearest snow globe housing an idyllic scene, grab a hammer, and make a really loud noise
v Have some strawberries covered in chocolate
v Scream as loudly as I can for as long as I can
v Drink some hot chocolate
v Get a foot massage, followed by a pedicure
v Have hubby feed me chocolate while supplying the foot massage (not using the same hands for the chocolate as he does on my feet!)
v Head to the beach, grab a pina colada, and hum “It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere”
v Head to the bedroom with a good book … and some chocolate
v Watch a chick flick with Matthew Mc Connaughey, Vin Diesel, Colin Farrell or some other wonderful distraction
v Watch said chick flick while eating peanut (and chocolate!) M&Ms
v Hire a masseuse… preferably Antonio Banderas
v Okay, the next one involves chocolate, but it’s private (just kidding, but it had to be said. If you didn’t pick up on the direction of my thoughts, I’m not sure if I should congratulate your purity or pity your lack of imagination when back rubs, Antonio, and chocolate are mentioned near eachother)
v Hug my kids, kiss my hubby, and settle down to watch yet another episode of Dora the Explorer and bask in the love of my family
Obviously the last option is the one I’m going to take. What will you do?
Comments:
Can't beat having Antonio, vin or matthew giving you a massage as you eat choclate..Heck I would take all three one to rub my back, one to rub my feet and other other to feed me the choclate..lol Well mamybe I have too much imagination or too much time on my hands to really think that through..lol At least you can have Dora I am stuck with Spongebob.. Take care and keep writing..I love to read your entries, I feel like it is my life I am looking at. hugs!
Now that's an idea, jerzee! Two to massage, one to feed me ... mmm mmm good, LOL!
I'm not familiar with the circumstances of your personal storm front so I can't speculate on the healthiest course of action based upon those critera. When I'm stressed I tend to take a hot bubble bath and get into comfy pajamas and watch something soothing on television, something like Dr. G: Medical Examiner or I Shouldn't Be Alive.
Stress right now revolves around finances, as it usually does in this current economy, and the problems that exist when you have less than is needed to feel secure. However, I opted for the movie and snuggles last night (and, wonder of all wonders, it was not Dora!). This morning, I stayed in bed all by myself with a good book (no chocolate in an attempt to stay healthy and not expand my gluteus too much maximus any further). I do like the bubble bath idea, but those always get interrupted!
So funny I found your journals today, cause I spent last night with my 3 pound chihuahua on my bed because it was WINDY outside and that's the only way to *maybe* stop the barking!! lol, don't we feel protected ![]()

All those choices involving chocolate and you pick the last one? I say you should combine that with items 1, 3, and 5 for best effect. Heck, you are watching Dora yet again. You deserve something just for you.
