Paul came home at 2am the other day and told me he was laid off. We were sort of anticipating it so it's not a complete surprise. There's no substitute for seniority in the factory. The plant manager made it a point to tell him he was a great employee.
I don't work either. He's going to get unemployment but it's not all that much.
And we were suddenly uninsured, with a 2-year-old and a 3-week-old.
I have ordered a box from Angel Food for March. I applied for state insurance for the kids. I canceled my 6-week postpartum appointment, Coen's 2-month checkup, and Kalten's appointment with the urologist for his undescended/retractile teste.
I'm trying to get Kalten out of diapers to get rid of that expense. He apologizes to his Thomas the Train underwear after he pees in them, but otherwise is pretty uninterested. He uses the potty just fine but isn't in a hurry to get out of diapers. I wish I had cloth diapers for Coen. I have a bunch of prefolds but no covers.
Part of Paul's severance will be used to pay off Coen's birth to get the prompt pay discount and save a bit on that.
We were already cutting back on everything, I'm not sure how we can tighten up much further (we use my parents' internet, do not have a landline phone, and would have to pay a billion dollars in early termination fees to get rid of our cell phones, which we pretty much need anyway, so you need not yell at me for having internet access and a cellphone. We can't cut back on our contract options either, because we have everything at the old prices before they went up and any changes would actually make the price go UP).
It's definitely going to be an adventure. I don't worry about making ends meet. I know we'll get through it.
