Musings from my mind...

because not all great minds think alike.

We took our daughter, who just turned 5, to what is going to be her new school. We are moving soon- and went as a family to check out the school she will be attending next year when she begins Kindergarten. *sigh* How ever did she get to be so big...

Any way- the teacher in me is always thinking of classroom life. Don't get me wrong, I love being at home with my babies... but there is more to me than just being the gal that loves to spoil her children! It is the teacher in me that ranked knowing where the school was higher than finding the grocery store... It was the teacher in me that bundled the three little children up in order to check out the playground (they didn't really mind all that much!) and it was the teacher in me that knew that when we went- we could not go empty handed.

I brought with us-

4 boxes of crayons.
4 Packages of pencils (yes, #2.)
4 large glue bottles
4 packages of black pens
8 Highlighters
A package of sharpies
4 packages of paper
4 rulers
and a large box of assorted teas and coffees

I asked that the supplies be placed in the staff room for those that know of any students that needed them.

I know, 4 is a random number- but I got it all for $20. Ok, not the coffee and tea- but the supplies themselves were! You see, the teacher in me knows that there are kids out there that have run out and cannot afford to get more. The teacher in me knows that there are parents that do a marvelous job providing their students with supplies at the beginning of the year- but never giving any though to replenish them. And, the teacher in me knows that nothing will make a teacher's day faster than being remembered... either through them or their students!

Please- take a moment and check your student's supplies. Next time you are at the store, grab some extras and by all means... send some coffee on Monday!

In our school we pool the supplies.  So that the supplies are not lost and everyone has something to use.  Our local Junior league provides clothes and extra supplies.

Good advice.  My kids were always running out of supplies, so I keep some on hand at home all the time for them to replenish their stash.

Mar. 1, 2009 at 5:41 PM When my daughter starts the new school year I double up the list. Because I know there are parents who can't afford even the basics. So if the list says 4 sharpies I get 8. I also send cleaning supplies. So this mom does all she can for her little student and the ones who need the help.

This teacher thanks you too!  A lot of people just don't realize these things and a little goes a long ways!

I am always asking my ds teacher if she needs anything.  I send extra snacks and all for the class all the time, we just did the Clorox Classroom Clean Up about two weeks ago.  :)
