Leticia's Journal

monkeys, hedgehogs, and miscellany

If you have it in your heart to pray for a drunk driver, please pray for my cousin Billy who is in Idaho. He is in emergency surgery right now. He has been in the hospital for over a week since the wreck, with a lot of pain and some internal bleeding. The latest scan found some bubbles in his gut somewhere so they are going in to see if they can figure out what is leaking where, and fix it.

Please send strength to my Aunt Jean, his mother, who has been at the hospital with him every day and sometimes feels like she might be able to get him through this by sheer force of her will alone.

(Chelsea, I am waiting for you to be your usual awesome self and send me a note with some useful and hopefully optimistic piece of information!)

UPDATE: Billy had a ruptured colon, and when they opened him up his belly was just full of infection. He is not out of the woods yet, but the surgery is over and he is still alive. He will be in intensive care for three weeks (once he gets out of recovery), and will have another surgery later to repair his colon.

Please continue to pray. My Aunt Jean, who is a diabetic, is not taking care of herself (watching her sugar) at all, she didn't even take any of "that stuff" with her to the hospital, she has just been totally focused on her son.

Oh Mama! So sorry... and any person, regardless of the circumstances is worthy of prayer! I am prayer for healing and a wise surgeon who can find the leaks.... steady hands!

Tell your Aunt to keep up the vigil... I am quite sure she is right, her will is holding him up!

I don't agree with his actions but I wouldn't sentence him to death, either. I'l pray for him & light a candle.

Love.

Mar. 3, 2009 at 9:03 PM Probably nothing to worry about! Maybe he just has some free air with a small tear somewhere. I would think if it was something major it would have shown before now. Just remember he is in good hands and we always do what we can to save people. Sometimes they just try to scare the crap out of you with the emergency surgery and all. I am sure he will turn out great!

Thank goodness they found that his gut was full of infection and are treating him!  I am sorry your family is dealing with all this turmoil.  I hope he gets a full recovery, and your aunt stays healthy during this scary time.

You are in my thoughts!

Mar. 3, 2009 at 9:42 PM They will have totally flushed his stomach out and washed out all the infection. Antibiotics for along time and resting of the bowel. Which means only jello and stuff to eat. DId he have to get a colostomy? Sending hugs and my thoughts your way. Ask me any questions if you have them!
