Hello Everyone, Wednesday March 4, 2009
Thank you so very much for your faithfulness to pray for us and to encourage us as we live and work in Corrientes. We are impatiently waiting for the cooler weather of fall to bring some relief to the soaring temperatures. This hasn't been the hottest summer we've experienced here, but it has been very warm. Today, for example, before the rain came to cool things off, the temperature reached 111 degrees with the heat index!
We are extremely happy to report that while the temperatures have been uncomfortable, our ministry opportunities have opened up as never before! Normally, this time of year is pretty slow going work-wise as most everyone either goes on vacation or into vacation mode and isn't interested in even continuing established meeting times much less starting new ones. Thank God, this year was different. Our team has had the privilege of starting EIGHT outreach groups since January! Since that time, we have also seen FIVE people make professions of faith, one of which was our son, Eli! We are looking forward to two baptism services, hopefully, this month.
Right now, we are planning for at least three volunteer teams to come down beginning in June. We have about four more groups who are very interested in coming this year as well, but haven't decided on dates just yet. Would you pray with us as we develop the schedules, work out the details and wait on God's timing for these trips?
One of our newest volunteer strategies centers around the tourism industry. We're calling it "Shotguns & Fishin Poles." (You can read about it on our website: http://www.nacriollo.com/) Our first confirmed team will be here in August and will be participating in the Dorado Fishing Festival which takes place in the town of Paso de la Patria. The team will also distribute Scripture portions and do some general evangelism. We are working to fill dates in June and July to go to the southern part of our province to do some hunting and evangelism in and around a town called Esquina. This is an exciting strategy and we're working hard to flesh out the details and plan well for the ministry side of the event. We have a trip scheduled later this month and some appointments set up to meet school principles and pastors in order to investigate the possibilities.
Eli started first grade this week and he is thrilled to be back with his classmates. He tickles us when he talks about what all the "little" kids in the pre-school section think of him now that he's a first grader!
We haven't heard anything new on the adoption front. We've been officially registered here in Corrientes for over a year now. The waiting is difficult, but we are confident that God is faithful and when the appointed time comes, our family will grow.
LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; Habakkuk 2:3
As you remember us in prayer this week, please pray for:
* The combining of 2 small outreach groups into one new church in Barrio Jardin (Garden Neighborhood). We are hoping to merge the groups next week and later this month have a baptismal service as well as observe the Lord's Supper. Pray specifically that the new believers will understand and embrace their need for baptism. There are many confusing conflicts within the culture that could postpone the act. The candidates for baptism in the Jardin neighborhood are
Lorena
and Elena. Our Eli will also be baptized with them.
* Pray for Eli as he continues to settle into the new rhythm and responsibilities of elementary school. Pray that he deepens his friendships and develops good study habits. Please also keep in mind his understanding of what it means to follow Jesus. We've seen such a marked difference in his desire and grasp of spiritual things since he made the decision to give his heart and life to Jesus.
* Pray for David & I as we disciple Eli. May we be consistent and faithful examples to him.
* Pray with us for the child God is preparing to join our family. Pray that we will find favor with the adoption judges in the provinces where we are registered. Please pray with us that our family will grow soon.
* Pray for the volunteers who are even now preparing to join us in ministry on the field:
June 22-30 - FBC Esteros, FL will be working with us here in Corrientes Capital
July 23-30 - FBC Jay, OK will be working with us in Quitilipi, Chaco
August 11-20 - Williams Trace Baptist Church will be working with us in Paso de la
Patria.
* Pray for our team as we adjust to organizational changes our mission board is putting into place in the coming months.
Our lives and ministry are made so much richer by your participation on our prayer team. Thank you so very much. Please write and let us know how we can partner with you in prayer too.
