Robert in Sunday Albuquerque Journal today -- El Defensor Chieftain Sight & Sound entertainment section on Wednesday.
Even though he is the president of the premier genealogy group in the state -- the one that all the others broke off of, he isn't mentioned in the print copy until you flip over to page E-4. And they don't mention that he is the current president -- but then, they don't mention that Ronaldo Miera is the President of the Hispanic Genealogical Society (just a member.) I guess because Nancy Anderson was able to spend a whole day with the report, they chose to focus on her.
They do mention Robert's genealogy blog, which he spends more time on than his teaching blog. (Lesson plans have to go somewhere!) And they mention that Robert is on facebook. They better mention that! In addition to publicizing all the NMGS events by sending out press releases, I am now paying for a facebook ad every month that hits everyone on facebook that lists that they are in New Mexico and interested in these keywords:
XBurial XFamily XGenealogy XHistory Club XLibraries XMeeting new friends XResearch XResearcher
Approximate reach: 2,760
I want to reach people age 18 and older in New Mexico who like Burial, Family, Genealogy, History Club, Libraries, Meeting new friends, Research, or Researcher.
It's a fixed vocabulary, so I can't get it to take birth records or baptismal records, which seem logical keywords to me.
Of course, Robert grumbles that I'm paying good money to have the same darn ad pop up on HIS facebook page all the time. Giuven what's on there, I would rather look at my own ad than some of the weird diet, celebrity and health ads.
For the Socorro newspaper, the El Defensor Chieftain, he will be featured in the Sight & Sound entertainment section on Wednesday. They asked for a formal color photo, so I am hoping it will be more about him. I like being associated with famous men!
I am putting his piece of the Albuquerque Journal article below, for those who don't have an account to log into the paper online. I think they will let you log in as a guest, but just in case......
Robert Baca, 40, began working on his family tree in 2000, soon after both parents died. "My parents talked a lot about their family, and after they died, it was like, 'Who are these people they talked about?' " Baca says. "It has broadened my understanding of who my family is, and that it's not just about surnames."
He traced his family back 400 years. He also does genealogy research on the family of his wife, whose maiden name is Douglas. Among the interesting tidbits: Two of his great-great-grandfathers were stationed at Fort Craig near Socorro.
Baca spends an average of 15 hours a week doing genealogy. He also blogs about his family history on the Internet, nmgenealogy.blogspot.com, and uses the social networking site Facebook to connect with other genealogists and family members. A number of genealogy groups are on Facebook.
"That's the thing ... the interconnectedness of everybody and how close they are, whether they are related or not," Baca says.

They forget, of course, to say that his great-great-grandfathers both were at Ft. Craig during the Civil War. Or that I am related to Abraham Lincoln through his mother Nancy Hanks -- distantly -- but it makes me a fourth cousin of the actor Tom Hanks. (If I ever need to borrow money.......)
Robert has about 20 pieces on his blogs about my family, things like grandpa's draft registration papers and such.
