My husband's mom and dad are visiting from Germany, and they act like I'm not even alive! I always knew that his mom never liked me, I don't really give it much thought when she doesn't acknowledge the fact that I'm the mother of her grandchildren. But his mom, his dad and he are always talking in German. It's rude. I don't talk Japanese around people who don't understand it. It might sound like I'm being over dramatic, but I'm not. I cannot wait until they leave, his mom is polluting my children with her thoughts of me and she needs to go away!

I know this comment is a little after the fact, but have you ever tactfully mentioned to your husband that you felt it was rude they always speak a language you do not know? If so then your husband should be making an effort to translate, or it is time your learned german. It your be great if your children could be tri-lingual. Just think of the advantage, english, japanese and german. My great-great grandfather immigrated from Germany and the language was lost with him because not many traveled then and he wanted to be american. Now the world is so small. You are proof of that. I hope for your benefit your inlaws come around and accept you for who you are. Some people are just difficult. Hang in there and make the best of it.

Seems they are rather rude. I take it his parents can speak American? Hopefully they won't stay too long. You can pick your hubby, but not your inlaws. Just sending a hug and hope things go better.
