Some of you have already read this, as I sent it out to all my friends (check your bulk mail, and if you reply, your name is entered into this month's draw) but my friend Teresa16135410 said I should post it as a journal post, so since she is such a smart lady, I am taking her advice...
Here we are, into March already. Time just keeps rushing headlong through the winter, dragging me through the snow. As some of you have heard, or even experienced *waves to NS friends*, we have been in the grip of ice the last week, reeking havoc with the power and forest. We have taken to keeping the buckets full of water up at the farm so that if the power goes out again it will save at least one trip down to the pond for the animal's water.
Here's what my Monday morning looked like this week.
That's my youngest in the lead!
Although we did get power back around supper time, making evening chores a little easier, the power went out again by 10 pm, DH was heading back to shut off the waterers so the animals didn't drain the pressure tank. I'm glad that the power didn't go off in the middle of the night or priming the pump would have been added to the list of inconveniences this ice storm had brought.
The next morning, the sky was overcast, but there was little wind and the walk to the barns was breathtaking. I wish I had a better camera, as my phone does not do justice to the astounding beauty of nature. I had to duck under the tops of trees that hung down over the path, and the entire length of electric fence was covered in icicles.
Chores took longer that day, not only because of the schlepping of buckets from the house to the barn, but also because I had to pause every few moment to take off my gloves, dig my phone out of my snowsuit pocket and snap another pale comparison to the real thing.
This is the path I take each day up to the main farm.
It snowed again and then rained more but only long enough to add to the diameter of the ice on the branches, not enough to melt it. It only strayed above zero for an hour or so before dipping down to minus 7 or so. I watched the tree outside nod, then bow, and finally rest it's head on the ground like a slave appeasing its master.
So, last month, I said that I would enter everyone who replied to my newsletter in a draw. I am such a procrastinator!! It has taken me weeks to write the names on slips and now they sit in a cup by my elbow. At this point, I was going to list everyone who replied, and link it to their page, but every time I would get started on that project I would end up getting distracted by my friend's journal entry or new picture and....well, the power would go out, or I'd get called away and another day would pass.
So now, without further ado, here is the winner. Mom2twoboys41
Go tell her congrats!!
Now I have to run and do the chores, and remember, if you reply to this, I will put your name in the next draw, and try not to dally so long this time.
Have a GREAT day everyone!
