I'm currently about 14 weeks pregnant with number five. In the past I typically drop about 10 pounds between weeks 6-12, due to morning sickness. After that I have never continued to lose weight.
I have had horrible morning sickness with this pregnancy and I am beginning to question my doctor. Since week six I have not been able to eat or drink much at all. I have now last over 30 pounds in about 7 weeks. He said the weight loss wasn't a huge deal in the 1st trimester because the baby didn't require much and I have a few things that I can keep down.
My diet is literally an Activia yogurt in the morning, 70 calories.
Lunch is a small cup of dry Cheerios, about 140 calories.
Dinner is the worst time of day for me. Sometimes I can keep a small portion of something I made down, but no meat. Usually it is a baked potato for dinner.
Liquids are hit and miss. I can at times keep sparkling water, 7 up, Gnger ale, or sprite down. But I never know for sure. I keep pushing water thinking something has to make it through.
I stay dehydrated and I am now getting extremely fatigued and cranky. I even have blurred vision and feel like I am going to pass out from time to time.
I don't think my doc is taking me seriously because I'm very good at pushing myself and staying positive. But I am at the end of my rope and my willpower is wearing off.
I have tried researching this on my own but I can't find definite answers. How much weight is safe to lose? Is it safe to still be losing weight in the beginning of the 2nd trimester?

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I lost a lot of weight throughout my pregnancy. I started out at 160 lbs. and delivered at 132. I was not able to keep anything down. I was in and out of the ER for dehydration and for passing out and being weak. This went on for about 2-3 months. I found out I was pregnant in Oct. started going to the ER in Nov. and was in and out like I said until the Beginning of Feb. The Dr. wasn't too worried about my weight loss because everything else checked out fine. He prescribed me pills to help with the nausea and the biggest tip I got for a nurse at the ER was to take a half of tab of OTC Unisom. Only at night before bed it will help you sleep and help with the nausea in the night, and if you are able to take other half in the morning. Also she told me to have a couple of crackers by my bed and a bottle of water, so when I woke up in the morning before I even get up to eat the crackers and wash it down with the water. After Feb. I still didn't gain my baby weight how you are suppose too but I gained some, but the Dr. Said it was fine again since I was eating more still not enough but better. So to answer your question I am not sure how much weight is ok to lose but I lost over half my pre-pregnancy weight and still had a healthy 7 lb. 3 oz. baby. I hope this helped a little. You should definitely ask your dr. to prescribe you something for nausea and you might want to try the OTC Unisom. Good Luck and Congrats on your little one.
