Question: Would you send your child into the lion's den by letting them go to another country for a senior trip without you? It's a dangerous world out there for our kids.

I would never do that, even before the Natalee Holloway incident, because it's just an irresponsible thing to do as a parent. Our babies are not under the same protection as they are in our great country. If my children were to go, I would be going with them. It would scare me to death to let my kids do something dangerous like this. Would you let them go after knowing what has happened to kids such as Natalee?

I guess it depends on the country and my child's proficiency with the language of that country. I went to Spain with my Spanish class in 10th grade and it really improved my Spanish. It also gave me a taste for travel and I've since been to England, Scotland, Mexico, Canada, and Poland. There are good safety tips to follow when traveling abroad. For example, never leave your passposrt in the hotel instead carry it on you under your clothes, know the number of the local embassy, take a calling card with you and know how to call home internationally, don't wander off, etc.
it would depend on 1. what country 2. the school. the problem with the Natalee Holloway situation was poor adult supervision. the HS I went to has done sr trips every year, and something bad has never happened. we were closely chaperoned, and had rules.(we had 4 chaps for 16 students my sr. year) soo it would depend on the school, and the country because it would depend on how they feel towards us, and if there are any travel warning out at the time
