Fashion has no Sense
The weather was perfect but people were not. There were the men that spit, the kids that argued, and the strange clothing.
The nice thing to see this year is that most ladies have it in their heads now that Capris are not and have not been in style for the past two summers. They are the new "Mom Jeans".
Here are a few tips:
1) If I am standing in line and can tell that your panties don't match your bra then you might want to rethink your wardrobe choice.
2) Muffin top beware. If you think you are in a size 10 pants but your size 18 shirt lets me see the inside of your belly button try going up a few sizes. There is nothing wrong with wearing a bigger size. There is something to be said for wearing clothes that fit. Embrace the size that you are.
3)I understand fully that you don't want to wear the high-waisted sports shorts. Rolling down a little is okay. If I can tell if your hair is your natural color it isn't a good thing.
4)If you want to wear flip-flops great for you. Some of you need to take sandpaper to those puppies. If I have to follow your feet up to your face to find out if they belong to a man or woman because of the polish....not good.
5)Ladies, please go get fitted for a bra. No matter how short you are your boobs should not touch your belt. Many stores will measure you for free. I beg you. If you give the person behind you on the roller coaster a black eye you might get sued.
Comments:
Ann if you are conforable wearing them then do. :) I am not taking away that right. You just need to know they are out of style. If you are okay with that then so am I.
You can still buy lots of stuff in the juniors department that are out of style. You can buy granny paties in the smaller sizes but it doesn't mean they look good.
My point is they don't look any better than showing your knees. How is cutting off the last quarter of your pants really any cooler than long pants or knee length shorts? I love dresses and wear them all year long.
You funny Rebecca! "Take sandpaper to those puppies." I think capri's are cute but I don't wear them cuz dh doesn't like them either. I'm a big bottom girl and capris seem to look cuter on small girls, i think. But I think it really depends on the size and look of your legs. If you are small but have big calves, then I don't think they look good. If your legs are covered in visible veins, then they don't look very good. But you know, some people aren't in it for the look. They just want to stay cool in the heat of the summer. I've seen big women in my neighborhood who will mow the yard with shorts and a bikini top! EEEEK! Now THAT"S bad!
Intellectually, I agree with everything you say, Rebecca. This post is really more about being self-aware than anything else. I'm aware that I am a total slag, fashion and beauty-wise, and I'm pretty cool with it. The point here is that these folks have NO idea what they really look like. They haven't made what you'd call "an informed choice" in the matter; they're just galumphing along, blissfully unaware that any and everyone can see the color of the bellybutton lint. Now, when I go cruising down Aisle 9 of Wal-Mart sporting a pair of yoga pants older than my son, an outsize scrubs top in a camouflage pattern, no underwear, discernible or otherwise and tennis shoes that would have Rebecca weeping in a corner, I know exactly what I look like--happy crap. I like to think of it as actual camouflage since I don't wear a wedding ring. I sure don't get hit on and everyone knows I'm a first-class MILF in spite of the concave chesticles.
I'm wearing capris today. Are you going to smack me? Comeon, please?
Hehehe, I refuse to go outside with them on though thanks to you and Kim.

*snort*
OK, it's either capris or bootie shorts for me. Which is less outta style?
=)
LOL Exactly Liz!
You make some good points Judi.
Sarah I would never slap you. You are informed so now you have to make the choice. ;)
Heehee, sorry, but I love my flip flops and don't quite care if my feet look crappy (moreso because I don't have the skill or time to do better), and my legs look much better in capris, I promise.

I'm sorry, but until they have something that is as cool - as in not hot - and yet not too short for fat legs, I will continue with them. As someone else stated, they still sell them in junior and misses departments so someone besides your grandmother is wearing them. As for them being the new 'mom jeans', some of us are moms who recognize that we are not size 12. Do we HAVE to try to dress to deny it to be considered well put together? When choosing to 'embrace your size' that includes recognizing who should not be wearing shorts. The alternative that Kim published pics of in that past journal you referenced would look horrid on me. It shows the knee and mine are too ugly until I get some more of this weight off. You live in Texas like I do and you know hot hot it gets. Having your ankles bare to the air makes a huge difference and capris are the only viable alternative unless you wear a skirt.
