Pride is a two edged sword. On one hand we have to have some pride in order to have self-esteem and we are supposed to have pride in our children. On the other hand pride is also considered a sin.
One thing I don't understand is those Americans who say they have no pride in the United States of America. Granted as a country we have made mistakes. First of all, essentially all a country is is a bunch of people. People make mistakes that is how we learn. Secondly as a nation we are in what I like to call our teenage years (and we all know how mislead and arrogant teenagers can be, thinking they know everything and not willing to take advise from older and wiser sources). Compared to other countries we have been around a very short time. We did something unprecedented when we created our version of democracy. We are still working on a learning curve. Unfortunately people have wound up hurt or dead during our learning process. On the other hand many have found a place of refuge on our shores.
So we are not perfect. However if you listen to many of the imigrants who have come here they are grateful for the U.S. They have more pride for our contry than we natural born citizens do. I have come to this conclussion then: We must be doing some things right. Why can't we have pride in what we are doing right and fix those things we are doing wrong.
