Jaydin had a bronchoscopy done on Thursday to get another look at his respiratory tract. It was found that he has tracheomalcia & bronchiomalacia which means that his trachea & bronchial tube (left side) cave in. Ok, so I was tripping on that one but then today I got one of his lab results back on kaiser's website and now I am a little scared...
Things tend to not faze me when it comes to him being sick because, as sad as it is, it is pretty much just part of his life. But now that I read his lab result and have to wait til Monday to talk to his pulm, I am sort of losing my mind! The doc ran a culture on the mucous that he found in Jaydin's lung (although Jaydin was audibly totally clear that day, the doc was surprised to find that the bottom half of his left lung was filled with thick mucous, so much so that when he flushed it with 3 teaspoons of saline solution, the mixture was still so thick that it clogged his bronchial tube) just to run some things out (like TB) well... the result shows that he has "moderate growth of HAEMOPHILUS INFLUENZAE BETA LACTAMASE"
Having had no idea what in the world that was, I googled it and realized that it is more commonly known as HIB, which is one of the immunizations in the childhood vaccination schedule. Jaydin has always been up-to-date on his vaccinations and almost always gets them the same exact day that he is due for his next round. I have NO IDEA how he was exposed to HIB but when i read up on it I find that it is spread those bodily secretions (saliva...) and that it usually just stays in the throat or nose of the person that comes in contact with it and that it doesnt cause a problem because they cough or sneeze it out. Jaydin is also being tested for a CELIA abnormality (the hairs that line the inside of your nose, ears & bronchial tubes) and if he does have it, it would explain why he is unable to cough stuff up because the celia is needed to help push the fluid up where it is suppose to go.
As if this isnt bad enough... HIB is the #1 cause of spinal meningitis! I am afraid about that because Jaydin has been complaining about leg & back pain for MONTHS now! I have previously taken him to the doc on three different occasions for his back and all they did was rule out an UTI. His previous pediatrician did run blood work for arthritis and that came back negative (that was done when he refused to walk saying that his legs hurt to bad) Meningitis can cause joint pain and so I am very worried about this. I have to wait til Monday to talk to the pulminologist but I am pretty sure that I am going to push for a lumbar puncture because, although I have heard it is incredibly painful, he will be put under for it anyways and I just need the peace of mind that he doesnt have meningitis.
The course of action for the HIB appears to be interveinious meds for 10-14 days which means I am pretty much screwed right now. My mom is in Vegas so I dont have her help with Kenna and although Jay offered to fly back, I dont want him to lose his job. Kenna has the most awesome daycare provider in the world and she has offered to watch her 24/7 for me while he is in the hospital (if he ends up in there) and not charge me any more than what I normally pay her for the week! I couldnt have asked for a more special lady to be in Kenna's life and since Kenna is so comfortable there, it will probably be the best place for her anyways.
Just PLEASE keep Jaydin in your prayers. This little boy has been through so much more in his 4 1/2 years than alot of us will ever be during our whole life time! My cell is 707-477-9036 and will be on me if he is the hospital so if you have texts, please feel free to contact me so that I can let you know how he is doing! If he is admitted, I will have Jay post comments on my page letting everybody know how he is doing day-by-day. There is also a preventative treatment that can be done, if needed, on anybody that was exposed to it so I am sure that I will end up pushing for Kenna to get that because they share germs all the time!
I am trying so hard to keep my cool and to know that there was nothing I could have done to prevent this besides vaccinate him, which I did. I am feeling like this is a GOOD example as to why I personally (and PLEASE dont bash me for voicing my opinion) feel like all children should be vaccinated. Although, for some reason... probably his weakened immune system, this vaccination didnt work for him, I feel like these diseases would be gone from our country if all parents vaccinated their children:( Enough about that, sorry for my input, but still... PLEASE keep him in your thoughts and prayers because this is just not what he needs on top of everything he already has:(
Comments:
You & Jaydin will be in my thoughts & prayers ... you are both so strong & will get through this, as you have everything else. HUGS!
aww why didnt you tell me this?? What ever happened? did he get the iv meds? thinking of him!!!!!!!!
Wake up! Your son has a vaccine injury! Why else do you think he is always sick. He's sick because of all the toxic chemicals you had injected into his body. You say your a great mom and go by the book. I have one question. Why are your kids always sick? I know why. You inject them with deadly disgusting serums in hopes they won't catch anything live threatening.
wow. that is all i can say. i will keep him in my thoughts and prayers as well.
