Did you know there was lead in lipstick? It's scary. I never knew this.

A Poison Kiss: The Problem of Lead in Lipstick

by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics

Independent laboratory testing initiated by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has found that some lipsticks from top brands do contain lead.

In October 2007, we released a report, "A Poison Kiss: The Problem of Lead in Lipstick," detailing test results that showed that lipsticks from top brands sold in the U.S. contained lead. Two-thirds of the 33 samples we tested contained detectable levels of lead; of those, half were above the legal limit for lead in candy. Complete results, including brands and shades tested, are available in the report.

Lead is a potent neurotoxin and linked to numerous other health and reproductive problems — and it doesn't belong in lipstick.
