PitBulls and Other Bully Breeds Shelter Stats!

There are aproxamently 18,243 Pitbulls including the American Bulldog, APBT,Bull Terrier, Staffy, and American Staffy and/or Mixes of Pits, in shelters according to the stats on Petfinder, of course the numbers in shelters throughout the USA is probally more when you take in the shelters that do not use Petfinder.

Why am I saying all this, well that's a staggering number to me, and should be to all pitty lovers out there. When you look at it and think about it. That's just the numbers for Petfinder, how many pits are in backyards all over the USA, on Logging Chains, In Fighting Pits, or just plain on the street?, For those of us who love the breed, and worry each day about our beloved dogs being banned its worrysome to say the lest.

Im not saying stop breeding, but I am saying be selective and if your not a professional breeder breeding to improve the breed or show the dog, Please don't, who's to say one of your puppy's won't end up just like those sitting in shelter's across the nation on Death Row.

I truly love my dog, I truly love the breed, I want nothing more than to preserve the integrity of the breed. To protect the breed. I am asking all my Cafe Mom Pitbull Loves to Join in the fight to save our pitbulls..

There are things you can do everyday with your own dogs, to help.

Thank you for posting the stats, and as a pit bull rescuer who sees the faces of suffering on a daily basis, I AM saying stop breeding!  There are no "responsible" pit bull breeders; I have even known a few, and in lieu of the current breed crisis they have hung up their hats.

I've had to help deal with the aftermath.  I once worked for the Detroit Humane Society.  We had to put them down because we could not take the chance of them being adopted out and attacking.  We could have been sued.  With all the fight clubs around the city, we have only hit the tip of the iceberg.
