The only way I can think of to describe my decorating style is Vintage Modern. Vintage with a Modern twist. I love the styles of the Edwardian and Victorian eras, also of Colonial America. However, I'm also in love with the clean, sharp lines of Modern design. I'm a huge fan of IKEA and of consignment shops.

The room that my son and I share is a perfect example of this design combination. More accurately, it will be when it gets a bit warmer and we finish the fine details that are left.

The walls are a Sage green. I have a chest of drawers that I may be refinishing, because it is a lighter color than the rest of the room's furnishings. The headboard to my queen size bed is from IKEA. Here is a picture of it.

The bedding is white, but that is going to change once I find the perfect sheet set. A cream quilt with embroidered clusters of roses is on top, and I'm looking for a throw blanket to accent it. There are four pillows, the primary ones I sleep with, in white and green pillowcases, and two baby blue toss pillows with crocheted flowers pinned onto them. They break up the monotony a bit. The bedside table I have is small (the top is 12'' by 12'') and is draped with a grey scarf. On top of the sheer scarf sits an antiqued lamp with a grey shade. Hanging above the lamp, which illuminates it beautifully, is a decorative frame with the famous quote about love from the Corinthians chapter in the Bible. Above the lightswitch hangs a small painting done by my late grandmother. Below that, is a nightstand that matches my dresser. Between the nightstand and the chest of drawers is a tall and thin CD shelf, that I'm using instead as a bookcase. I intend to get several more of them. They're not as deep as a traditional bookcase, so it takes up much less room in the tiny space I have available.

I'm in the process of finding a suitable computer desk. I don't have much space, so I'm looking for something compact. Ideally, I'd get something that would fit flat to the wall (as much as possible, I have a flat monitor), with the ability to pull the keyboard away from the wall when in use. I also want to be able to have a comfortable reading chair, while not having the computer in my face the entire time. The entire tower needs to be enclosed, because I share a room with my son - I don't want him getting into it!

In Connor's Corner, we're taking out my small closet (I don't have much hanging stuff anyhow), and putting his bed there. There will still be a short wall, where the closet ended, because it is structurally necessary. This works well though, because it will be enclosing his bed on 3 sides (headboard, one long side and footboard) in essence, creating a space that is his own. I'm not exactly sure how I'm decorating it, but it will be boyish. It will still coordinate with the rest of the room, just a little less feminine.

Due to finances, we don't know how long we're living with my parents. So, I might as well make the best of it!

My dream room for my son is from Pottery Barn Kids!  This one.
