As crazy as it sounds, as much as I hate to admit this I think I've finally discovered and now understand the practical reasons behind "mom jeans". Strike me down where I stand if I ever put a pair on but after today the reasons behind why women wear them has come to light for me.
How many of us still dress cute and fashionable, and find our selves constantly adjusting our clothes and heaving up our pants every 10 seconds while we chase after our little ones? I know tonight as my 3 yr old played on his quad I found myself cursing my choice of pants and wishing for a pair that would just stay up past my hips and not get caught under my shoes every 15 or so seconds. I had to decide tear my pants or save my son from crashing head over tea kettle? The obvious choice won however I cursed my clothing that just wouldn't stay put.
I looked cute while I chased my 3 yr old around the park trying to keep him safe, however is fashion really worth the hassle of trying to be a mom. Picking my kid up after he falls and being worried my shirt might get pulled and expose me, or wondering if my thong is sticking out the back of my pants when I bend over at the mall to pick up the toy he dropped.
Mom's in their mom wear and mom jeans don't have that issue, they move with comfort and ease knowing they can bend, run, jump or manuever however they may need to because their clothes are going to stay put. While I however have added difficulty of clothing into an already pain in the behind situation. I've got to carry a kid on my hip, keep my purse on my shoulder, carry the shopping bag and hopefully make it back to my car without falling flat on my face or dropping something.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm a little jealous of those moms and their mom wear. here I sit wishing I wasn't a victim of fashion so that I could allow sense and practicality to rule my life and let me wear clothes that stay where they belong. And yes to those of you who may wonder, I wear clothes my size, and appropriate. The clothes that don't fit are the tank tops or fashion tops and the regular jeans you'd buy at Charlotte russe or somewhere.
