GUYTON, GA (WTOC) - A Boston terrier shot last week in a Guyton neighborhood is back home. Police say the dog, named Sierra, was shot in the head by a neighbor (see Beloved pet shot in broad daylight).

Witnesses say they watched the suspect shoot the dog, but when they ran inside to call police, the dog was gone. Her owners told us they couldn't find her and thought she was dead.

Peggy Tucker never thought she'd be getting kisses from her dog Sierra again. But a week of fearing the worst ended with a miracle sighting at her brother's house.

"I was leaving out of his yard when I spotted Sierra across the way from him. I said to my husband there's CC and he said no, and I said I know my dog when I see her," said Tucker.

And sure enough Peggy was right, it was Sierra. She was a bit dehydrated and hungry, but alive.

"She came running to me and licking me and she jumped in the car and off we went," said Tucker.

To the vet's office where Sierra was treated. You can still see where the bullet hit her on the top of her head.

"Her skull is fractured but they said she is going to be fine," said Tucker.

Words that Tucker thought she would never hear. "That's my miracle that's the best thing that happened to me," said Tucker.

Police say Jacob Newman, a 22-year-old neighbor, shot Sierra while riding his motorcycle and carrying an infant.

"Why would someone do this," asked Tucker.

The Tucker family has to keep an eye on Sierra because she been through quite a bit the last week and her wounds are still healing.

"For her skull to heal it's gonna be a good ways ahead of her, but she is gonna survive and make it," said Tucker. "What a fighter I have on my hands."

Newman has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, cruelty to children and reckless conduct. He is out on bond.

Tucker vows she will never let Sierra out of her site again.

That poor dog... How ANYBODY can do that to an innocent animal is just beyond me. Not only that, he was carrying an INFANT while riding his motorcycle? That dude needs to be put away...

Glad to hear the dog survived though!
