I live in Queensbury, NY. I know my id says lake george mom but I live on the border and I love the lake lol. My town and school system are truly amazing. When my daughter lost her father she was afraid to go back to school, but they had a support group waiting to help! She saw she wasnt the only one who had lost a parent and was able to heal a little having others to talk to. When a classmate lost her mom to cancer, the students got together to raise money for her, we adopted her for christmas, and we went shopping as 2 classes, to buy things she wanted! We recently had a 12 year old student, who is my daughters best friend and like a part of my family, suffer from a ruptured brain aneurysm, and is in critical condition in a local childrens icu. The kids have been sending so many cards, plants, teddy bears, we had a candle light vigil and were asked to have another this weekend, we are putting together fundraisers and everyone is supporting each other. The school has been amazing at helping the kids deal with this. They also have been very supportive about putting up flyers around the school for the fundraiser and candlelight vigils. They have allowed the kids to make multiple cards in art classes. The local paper was kind enough to put together a story including the fundraiser info to save us money on buying ad space. It should be in tomorrows paper and I just spoke to them at about 11am. The last candlelight vigil included students from all different groups, not just kids she had hung out with, teachers, her bus driver and neighbors too. We have a neighboring school that has a dance marathon every year, they choose people in need of fundraising in the area, and dance all night long to raise money to help them! We recently had the kids put together a shoe drive, a company called soles4souls, we raised 850 pairs of shoes to donate! I know I am so lucky to live in a caring, close knit community, and I am grateful for it everyday.
