My son, Ryan is 19 years old. My sister just asked me this morning how he is doing since he is home on Spring break this week. I told her that he is so happy to be home and he has not given me any problems at all. The only thing is, is that he does like to take over the remote control of the TV. He has such a good memory for movies. He can remember parts from movies that we haven't seen in years. Yesterday it was a Three Stooges day. I sat with him and we watched them and I am so amazed at how perfectly he can imitate Curly. Ryan just gets the biggest laughs when he watches them. He has the kind of laugh that is so wonderful that I can't help but laugh right along with him. Honestly, our home is so filled with so much love and laughter because of him.
Around St. Patricks Day I added some Irish music to my, MYSPACE account. I could hear Ryan in the other room making noise. To my great surprize he was doing the Irish gigg along with the music I downloaded. I couldn't believe how well he was dancing. He had his hands on his hips he was kicking up his heels perfectly. I sent my daughter Megan for Irish dance lessons for a year and she couldn't even dance as good as Ryan was dancing. I asked him, "Where did you learn that?" and his reply was, "Zack and Cody." They are teen-aged twins boys that have a show on the Disney channel. Watching him dance just made me realize that he knows so much more than we realize. My husband and I both agree that our lives have been so enriched by Ryan. He has an interest in things that we never could have imagined that he would know. He loves music with his whole heart and sings and plays his little guitar with a passion I have never seen before. He loves all the things a typical teen-aged boy would like. He loves Zombie movies, pizza, money, playing XBox games, drawing, he loves all animals and they love him back, and yes, he is girl crazy. When he sees a pretty girl he goes, Huba Huba and he makes a gesture like he is holding a phone to his ear and he says, "Call me."

Our daughter Megan is 23 years old and she loves her brother with her whole heart and Ryan loves so much. He has learned to love the same thingsthat she does. She loves Art and computers and he is the exact same. Megan has such a gentle and kind heart and I know that she has gotten that way by watching what her brother has gone through in his life.

Sometimes I just sit and am so amazed at the beautiful young man he has become. There have been many, many illnesses and heart problems along this journey but Ryan never complains. I KNOW HE LOVES LIFE more than anyone I have ever seen and I am so happy and proud to be Ryan's Mom.

I loved your story. My dd has mild autism and it reminded me to love her how she is. I told my dad one time that I see all these "perfect 3.5 year olds at school all the time, and how I wish she could be like that. Then he said "no, you dont b/c then she wouldnt be Maddie" That stuck with me FOREVER! I just need a reminder sometimes.
Thanks! :)
