hello friends!  =)  teagan finally got his 1 yr dr appt on monday.  he's doing fine developmentally, but he weighed 18 lbs. 3 oz.  which is 3 oz more than at his 9 month appt, but 1 oz less than his 6 month appt.  he just stopped growing.  *sigh*  so the dr set him up with a pediatrician who specializes in weight issues and he had that appt today.  i'm being a worry wart and thinking that maybe there's something wrong with his organs/digestive tract that's preventing him from absorbing nutrients properly, because of his SID.  but the dr says it's me.  of course.

he says that since i'm still breastfeeding, teagan's not getting the nutrients he needs.  he says breastmilk isn't as nutrient rich after the first 6 months or so and that production decreases, so teagan isn't getting enough nutrients from me.  which, i have yet to research, but i think is a load of crap!  he then labeled teagan as "failure to thrive", told me to give him pediasure to help with his nutrient intake and gave him a supplement to add to his food to up his caloric intake.  which i'm fine with.  i agree he needs to gain weight and, obviously, that means more calories.  but i'm thinking this diagnosis is way off.  he's "failing" because of me... wouldn't that make me the failure?!

i can't say the thought hadn't crossed my mind though.  i'm not a good eater.  i definately don't hit all 4 food groups daily.  and there are some days where i'm so busy that i get to the end of the day and realize i've eaten only candy and soda.  (sadly, that's not an exaggeration)  so i have thought that my milk must suck.  but i also know that as a lactating mom, your body gives first to your child and you get the "leftovers" so to speak, so i figured if i wasn't feeling malnourished, then teagan was fine, since he gets first dibs on the incoming food.

i dunno... whatever.  he's on a powder additive called "duocal" that basically adds fat and carbs to every meal.  i have yet to google it and do my mommy research there, but if it works, it works.  and i'm working on getting the pediasure.  today was a busy day, so i didn't make it to the store.  plus, teagan won't drink from a sippy cup or a bottle anyways, so i'm not sure how i'm going to get him to drink it.  but, we'll figure it out.  and, regardless of what's in my milk, i'm not weaning him yet.  he likes it, i like it, we're still doing it!  =)

he had a weight check on may 29th, so he's got just about 2 months to beef up for the big weigh-in.  =)  i hope this works.  and, if not, i'm getting a second opinion on my jumbled organs theory!  ;)  i watch those reality medical tv shows- i know what i'm talking about!  =)  heehee!

and he's been referred to a cardiologist to check up on his heart again soon.  he was supposed to have a check at 1 yr, but i'm all off schedule w/the move.  it took nearly 3 months to get our medical records here.  and mine's still not here!  the only reason the boys' records are here is because i called their old dr myself and had her mail them to the naval hospital.  then i went to the hospital and picked them up and drove them to their new dr's office.  who knows how much longer that would have taken to do it the "right" way.  geez!  i don't have time to wait on the military to get around to it when they feel like it.  when i went to his appt on monday and told the dr my list of problems and concerns, we walked out with 4 referals.  and we got 2 more just today!  =)  and then there's his 12 month shots.  and his 15 month shots.  *ugh*  i need to go get a day planner to keep track of this all!  =)

but anyways... back to the heart appt... i'm expecting that to be routine.  as of his last cardiologist appt, the dr there said he looked fine.  so i expect nothing's changed.

and i guess that's it.  for now.  trevin will be 3 june 5th, so he'll need his annual checkup soon too.  but, thank God, his GERD is waaaaay better now.  so he's a breeze!  well, health wise.  he's a total terror lately!  but i guess that's to be expected of a 3 yr old boy.  =)
