I'm always fine & confident homeschooling our High-Schooler, until I click one of those "What you need to know to homeschool your highschooler" links. They are all so full of forms and "have-to's".
The exact way to go about making sure your child has the requirements for full and half credit hours.
Forms to follow to make sure .... basically to make sure everything is all neat & tidy just like a public high school record performance.
for about 15 minutes I question all of this 'unschool' stuff we do. Our lack of regulated forms that ensure... basically nothing. Then I come back to my senses and remember all of that does ensure basically nothing. It might ensure you have all your 'i's dotted and 't's crossed- but it does not ensure a good education.
The Community College here doesn't require High School transcripts OR SAT scores. And their credits transfer to the California Universities. If you go to the Community College- you go transfer strait to the state Universities- no SAT or Transcript.. (from what I have researched)
We will keep a transcript and they will take the SATs- cause you never know......
Last week I was thinking of school plans for our next school session. I had a list of workbooks and CD-Roms, etc... A.C.E. social studies, writing programs, Language Arts texts, the required Basics (math, reading, science), etc. I looked at it and decided it looked boring. So I asked the boys if they'd rather do their ACE Social Studies and the Writing CD-Rom or if they'd rather make Chainmaille and other Medieval weapons for school.
So, they will learning about and making medieval weapons and armor for school. How is this recorded on a transcript? How many credit hours is it? I really don't care. My boys will learn a lot more doing this than sitting and filling out boring A.C.E. workbooks and watching a CD Rom on writing lessons. I'll figure out the transcript later.
Some of the links I have for their lessons:
Choice #1 is Medieval Armour.
