When I was a girl, one of my biggest dreams was to have a Magickal Garden. I wanted lots of flowers, a riot of blooms enticing butterflies and birds galore. I wanted a place where I could bring my trusty journal and magick wand (pen) and just BE...enchanted. I visualized myself sitting in a big, comfy papasan chair, surrounded by nature and serenaded by the tinkling of the scores of windchimes I was to hang all about.
Every place I've ever lived did not have this "magickal-ness" to it. I either lived in an apartment or with parents who had a swimming pool. (Yeah, lucky me!) My Nana, however, had flowers and plants galore in her front yard. As a kid, I dug in the dirt many a day in her flower beds. Feeling the Earth in my hands while being sedated by the sweet scent of gardenias cracked my imagination WIDE open. I haven't been right since.
Four months ago, my husband and I bought our first house together. Oh, the excitement that I FINALLY had a place where I could make that Magickal Garden a reality was undescribable. I was literally ITCHING for Imbolc to give way to Ostara so I could begin work on my garden. Come time for Beltane, and I am going to throw a Garden Tea Party!
This past week-end was the beginning of my Labor of Love. Shovel in hand, I dug up all the old, crusty plants and weeds (and we won't mention that sprinkler wire I managed somehow to cut) and made way for my husband to install the drip system. We went to our neighborhood friendly Lowe's and picked up some soil, Gardenias, seeds, Sweet Basil (what garden is complete without fresh herbs, I'd like to know?!) and bricks for borders. I would lie if I said I didn't shed a tear at the sheer HAPPINESS I felt knowing that my Magickal Garden is FINALLY underway.
Nana, the Gardenias are for you.

Yay! Oh, you paint a picture of gorgeous, fragrant, sun-dappled moments strung together with love & care, my dear.
Congratulations on your Magickal Garden, love. My heart thrills for you & your good fortune of a wish come true.
Your writing is beautiful. Continue to wield your wand, gentle goddess, & to create beautiful vistas for us all. You are soooo talented, honey! I look forward to each of your journal posts.
Hugs...Ceci
What a beautiful dream! There is a movie with Barbara Steisand where she has a green thumb and all the small little plants become a lush garden on the roof (Funny Girl? That's all I really remember about the movie.) Another movie - can't remember the name where some English ladies go on vacation to a resort where everything is green and blooming. And when they leave, someone sticks a cane in the gound which begins to sprout green leaves. I hope your garden is all you imagine!
