My husband and I watched this movie last night. I'm not sure what I was expecting from this movie, but I'm fairly certain that wasn't it.....I knew going in that the movie was basically a glorified porn, with all the sex scenes but.....the actual storyline was horrible as well.
It opens on Caligula and a woman, frolicking in the forest, half naked.....immediately I tell my husband that I would much rather watch the other movie we had, but he said I would like this it's a love story. (mind you, he's never seen the movie either). So, I go along with it. It doesn't get much better from here.
There is a scene where he goes to see the current Caesar (his grandfather) and they are in this building where people are having all kinds of sexual acts. There is one woman laying on a table and pushing her feet in a pedal and it swirls around a circle of tongues....yeah, you've got the right visual. There were tons of blowjobs and general sex going on as well. Then, a bit later it showed a woman being held upside down and a huge stake was being hammered into her and people were basically bathing in her blood.
So, the movie goes on....Caligula is with the woman from the opening again and holy moly we find out it's his sister. Ick. Gag. Cough. He wants to move to Egypt to marry her. Ick. Gag. Finally she convinces him that he needs to marry a woman (not her, although she will continue to be around for sexual reasons...) So, he goes to a Priestess' of Isis meeting and sees a woman. Apparently she's a virgin and his sister says no. Then he sees another woman, who is a big huge whore, and he says that is who he wants as his wife.
The wife bit was provided if she could provide him with a son. Well, she's a well known slut, so he has unics put as her guards and has her put in a collar and leash...so she won't sleep around on him. I did find that amusing. Well...then they all go to this wedding (of the virgin earlier) and Caligula basically rapes this woman in front of her husband "to see if she's lying"...and then, yep, proceeds to anally fist the husband after he's done with the wife. With baking grease no less. Can we say ICK?
It just goes on from there.....he has a threesome with his sister and wife-to-be. Then we see two women getting it on. Uhhh. And, if all this wasnt' enough, they have the wife-to-be put on a "show" of her childbirth. Like, there was a curtain and everything. As she was pushing out the baby, they were pronounced married. Turned out she had a girl. Then his sister got sick with this every present fever that everyone is scared about.
She dies, he goes even crazier. He puts all the senators wives on a boat and whores them out....again, alot of sexual scenes. All the while there is a plot being formed against him. Apparently they feel he's a tyrant...ya know with all the pointless killing he doing and raping of virgins. I'd say that falls under tyrant....or sick fuck.
I think at the end, perhaps he was starting to see reason? maybe? He and his wife were doing a "play" of Isis and Osiris....he seemed calm, like, maybe his craziness had dissipated...I dunno. Well, he goes to walk into the house and gets denied, then gets stabbed. The wife goes crazy and gets stabbed to. At this point, my husband grabs me and covers my eyes. He knew what was coming (unlike me). They killed the little girl as well. He said they chopped her head off and left it on the steps. What cruelty.
The final scene was of their blood dripping down the steps toward all three of their bodies...then with a close-up onto Caligula's face.
Worst movie ever.

Ummm, yeah, well, did you know the story of Caligula's life before you got the movie? The man WAS actually that nuts, and that perverted! I agree with you though, it's a hard movie to watch...
wow I think I'm gonna throw up just reading about it. that's pretty awful. was it supposed to be a historical movie? lol chris would never let me watch anything like that I'd probably go nuts and have nightmares forever afterwards. what was the other movie you guys got?
That is just gross. I am glad I have never heard of it until now, nor have seen previews, nor have had any desire to watch it! If I had....this just killed it! ahahahaha
Wait wait. She had twins!!! He killed the daughter first, the boy was slain on the steps.... I forget if that is in the movie right, but that is history, baby! LOL

WOW.....I have seen ad's for this movie, and always figured it was a history movie, you know, like you would LEARN something useful. Think I am glad I've never taken the time to see it. Ugh.
