So this is what police are for.....

The following is an actual news story, found in yesterday's local paper.

Police stop pillow fight in downtown Detroit

Detroit police officers not down with the idea of an impromptu pillow fight downtown have ruffled a few feathers by preventing it.

The pillow fight, reportedly one of at least 50 across the world Saturday organized by people on social networking  Web sites, was shut down by officers stationed at Campus Martius Park.

The Detroit News says officers politely disarmed pillow-toting participants. Michael Davis, 32, of Hamtramck, who had his pillows snagged but his cases returned, said police told him he needed a permit.

Scott Harris, 48, of Ferndale, wasn't willing to simply roll over, saying, "It's not illegal to own a pillow."

Detroit police were not immediately available for comment.

Ok. Pillow fights around the world?  Why? I'm sure there is a good reason why the Detroit police decided to rain on the seemingly innocent pillow fight. Whether the idea of a pillow fight around the world was borne out of boredom or some other idea, I don't have a clue. But in an age where most all news is political, scary, and/ or depressing, this one brought a perplexed smile to my face.

funny, the police said they needed a permit....where would you go and get that? is there a permit for pillow fighting? LOL maybe they were opposed to the word "fight" in pillow fight. maybe it should've been called the pillow "challenge" LOL.

We have the right to peacefully assemble, however, we are required to obtain a permit from the town/city/county/township/parrish/etc. in order to do so.

As to the why of the pillow fight, I have no idea.
