Getting ready for bed last night, I was surprised to realize that Saturday morning hadn’t been a week earlier. I can’t even remember what we did Friday night (ok, I distinctly remember certain parts, but those shall remain undisclosed). I know we went and did something . . . I’m sure I’ll smack my forehead when I upload the pictures tonight, lol.
Saturday we went to the big Easter Egg Hunt thing in Fredericksburg. It was a lot more fun than I expected it to be. K had a blast – pony
rides, giant inflatable playplaces, and a magician/juggler. Not to
mention the obvious: Candy! (and pizza and funnel cake) The magician
called Chris up on stage to help with a trick, which I found hysterical
until I was later called up to assist in something else. I’m interested to see how those videos turned out.
When we got home we took a nap (an actual sleeping nap – much more restful than what normally passes for a “nap” in our house) which was awesome. I never have time to nap anymore. Then K’s friend came over and invited her to go see Monsters vs Aliens in IMAX 3D. Bonus. So C and I had a nice steak dinner together and watched Twilight (not really my thing, teen angst kind of annoys me and teen romance disgusts me, but it really wasn’t that bad, and any movie is better all full of steak and red wine!). Not that we watched the whole thing, but, again, I won’t go into that . . .
Sunday morning we brought the snack for coffee hour after church (my now famous spinach brownies and fruit and veggie trays). The service was great, as usual. I could go on and on about how many deeply moving moments I experience
every Sunday. Our church is one of the places where C and I are very
openly loving, and it is amazing to hear the minister talk about
the gifts of the Universe while I sit in a quiet space with his arm
around me, or to stand with our arms around each other and sing the
wonderful songs found in the UU Hymnal, Singing the Living Tradition (http://www.uuabookstore.org/productdetails.cfm?PC=565), which are not anything like the gloomy dirges I grew up on. Church was, as always, good.
We stayed at the church late, chatting with our friends (other parents who
we usually only see at church) while K played with the other kids. Then
we headed out to the park to grill out chicken and left over steak. It
was AWESOME. Recognizing that I needed a little rest before work today,
C took care of getting all the food ready, and I was able to just lay out in the beautiful weather and read. I can’t
even express how happy it made me to relax and read. It is something I
used to do all the time and rarely get to indulge in anymore. There were tons of kids at the playground for K to play with. She was thoroughly happy and tired out (always a plus on a Sunday evening), and the dogs, I think, had more fun than all.
We did have to give the dogs quick baths when we got home and check each other over for ticks (not that that wasn’t a little fun ;-), but it was so worth it. I’m still happy from the beauty of yesterday.
Not the most interesting post in the world, but a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
