I know this business model works. It’s just taking longer than expected. I just need to be more patient.” This is what a new client told me the other day. Mind you, this entrepreneur has been working with her current business model for over two years.

Let’s be honest: Her business model was NOT working. If we have to adjust our expectations, if we’re not getting the results we want - then our business is NOT working!!!

As entrepreneurs, we can get very attached to a wonderful concept, idea, or business plan. We fail to remember that our business is not about concepts, ideas and plans. Business has to work for us. It has to create the results we want and need. Otherwise, our business can suck the life right out of us, rather than give us the life of our dreams.

It’s not about being patient.

It’s not about readjusting our expectations.

It’s not about working more, or harder.

It’s not about spending more money on marketing and advertising.

It’s definitely not about blaming the economy.

If we’re doing any of the above - then our business is NOT working.

What’s needed is a course correction. It always surprises me how long some entrepreneurs take to change gears, try something different, and figure out what’s going to work. I’ve had one or two business owners come to me on the verge of financial disaster after their business had been losing money for two years!

So how quickly do we course correct? How long do we wait before we decide something isn’t working? For most solopreneurs, I think one month is the maximum, to be honest. If we’re not getting the subscribers, clients, contracts or projects we want, then it’s time to change how we do business - now. Today. We don’t need to wait until the end of the quarter, or the end of the year. And if you don’t know what changes to make - well, order a consultation with me and I’ll tell you. It doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul. I once changed the copy on a sale page and business from that income stream doubled in a month! Small changes - a shift in direction, a tweak of our niche, a slight course correction - can make all the difference to our bottom line.

The beauty of being an entrepreneur is that we can make those changes quickly. We are so powerful, if only we’d insist on our ability to create what we want. We can move and evolve with these economic times. We can do what works - not just so that we can get by, but so that we can thrive. We have the ability to make our business work for us.

So - is business really working? Is it growing as fast as you want? Are you living the life you deserve? And if not - what are you doing about it?
