No joke!

We live out in the country.... everyboyd out here has an acre or more.  My mom lives next door.  My dad lives in front of my mom.  My oldest son was out walking the dog and came back saying "Uh.. mom... I need your help... there's a baby sittin' on Granny's porch".

I'm thinkin' "Yeah right"... but I grab my cell and go have a look... and sure enough I see a little girl (maybe 2ish) with a popcicle sitting at the bottom of my mom's porch/ramp (she's in a wheelchair).

I asked her what her name was... she said "I don't know"

I asked if she knew where her house was... she said "Yes"

I asked if she could show me her house... and she pointed in 3 or 4 different directions.

I asked her if she wanted to go call her mom.. and she said "Yes"

So, I told her "Okay... let's go inside and see my mom for a minute and I'll call your mom to come get you".. and she took my hand & we started up the ramp.  I already had my phone opened up ready to call the cops.

About then, here she came.  My dad's next door neighbor.  Yelling & cussing at the top of her lungs.  First thought "Oh crap....this poor baby is with them?!?"

My dad's neighbors --- let's just say --- um.... are not the most popular folks on the street for various reasons.

So I asked her "Is that your granny?" (cause I know this woman's kids dump their kids on her all the time)... and she said "Yes"

I picked her up (she was barefoot) and carried her over there.  Poor baby had no diaper on and was soaking wet.  She was WAY too little to be w/o at least pull-ups.

The woman didn't apologize, didn't seem relieved, nothing.  She starts yelling at this baby and blaming HER!  "God Dammit!  Every time I open a door --- out you go!  You need to stay in MY yard!!"

Okay --- wait a minute --- a 2 yr old, unsupervised is supposed to stay in their own yard??  My 2 yr old plays outside, sure ---- with 3 older brothers!  With my dad watching her!  With my mom watching her!  or with ME watching her!

THEN...as I walked back home I noticed the little girl was following me.  Her grandmother had her back turned didn't notice the baby was headed back my way, and when she did she yelled at her "Nu-uh!  You better get back over here little girl!  You go one more step & you're gettin' a whoopin'!!

UGH!

And yeah.. before anyone says it... the cops are out here all the time over these people.  They know how they are to their kids, to their pets, to others' property.  They don't give a crap.

Thank God you found her.  It is absolutely amazing how she blamed the baby for disappearing.  God must have been watching that little angel.

Without women like her, I would be out of business (I am a psychiatric nurse). How sad...my heart is breaking for that little one.
