My mother has been in Virginia for a week. My sister went up there to visit my BIL and my mom went with her to help her look for apartments and such.
Well they started on their way back home around 11 am today. It would have been an 12 hour trip IF my BIL (or one of his army buddies) had not accidentally reset the TOMTOM settings for bicycle route.
I received the first call from them about 2 hours after they left the hotel, and had been driving back roads (bicycles aren't allowed on the interstate) wanting to know where in the crap they were. (they still didn't know about the tomtom settings at this point)
They had no idea what city they were in, no idea what road they were on, they only knew they were somewhere between Virginia Beach and Roanoke or some crap.
Now if its not nerve wracking enough trying to mapquest your mothers way back from oblivion , I have to listen to her and my sister bicker back and forth about what road to turn on, and whether or not they need to be going north and south.
We finally figure out where they are, and where they are going, and get them on the right road to get them to the interstate. I wish them luck on the trip home and tell them to call me when they do get home.
Two hours later i get the next phone call. Mom has miraculously figured out why tom tom wasn't working.
I proceed to laugh my a** off. She didn't think it was funny. She does however want me to (stop what i am doing and) look up what the whether is gonna be like for the rest of there trip. She also wants me to find out what the road conditions are going to be for the rest of the trip.
Um okay, how am i supposed to know exactly what route they will be taking, and what the roads are gonna be like. I look up the current temperatures for the region, and they are all in the fifties. I didn't look at the forecast because they weren't going to be in one place long enough for it to really matter. I mean they should probably be almost home by the time the temp would drop low enough to deter them. Or so I thought. Either way they are in a truck that has a stereo and can listen to the current weather and road conditions a lot better than I could find them on the vast space that is the Internet. I told them just to keep an ear to the radio and they should be fine.
Well, at about 7:30 I get the next call. THEY ARE STILL IN VIRGINIA IN THE MIDDLE OF A FREAKING BLIZZARD!!!! (or at least a blizzard by a phobic paranoid who hates all weather's standards)
My sister is the one who calls and i can hear my mom growing very frantic in the background. They want me to find them a hotel to stay at because the weather is so bad. I CRAWL out of bed (I cleaned house today in between calls and my back and hip are both "OUT") and make it to the computer. Make Preston get off the computer, so i can figure out where they are and what hotels/motels are closest and the most economical. All the while my mom is almost frantic, and Lisa is trying to calm her down. They can't see the road, big trucks are flying past them, they are not comfortable driving in snowy conditions, Lisa is begging my mom to let her drive, because mom is growing more and more anxious. My hands are shaking I am so worried for them at this point. Its snowing so hard that they can't make out the exit signs, and all this time I am wondering where tomtom is.
I finally convince them to pull over into the shoulder and I will call VA state police to see if they can guide them to a hotel for the night. I get a pretty good description of where they are, mile marker and such., and I call the state police.
I tell them what is going on, Explain to them about my mothers phobic and anxiety issues about driving in the first place. They get the vehicles description, my moms name, and my name and number and say they will send someone out.
I call my sister back to let them know that a state trooper is on his way just to sit tight where they are! ONLY THEY HAVE MOVED, INCHED ALONG ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO THE NEXT MILE MARKER!
I say ok, yall sit there I will call them back and let them know.
I call the state trooper back and tell them they are at the next mile marker.
I call my sister back and she tells me that another motorist has pulled behind them and she is scared too. So both cars at this point are going to wait on the trooper to lead them to safety.
I tell my sister thats great call me when he gets there to let me know that he is there.
She calls 5 minutes later.
"Hey, I just wanted to let you know that the snow has let up and we are gonna go ahead and get off on this next exit"

At this point I WAS LIVID.
Preston was yelling that they needed to stay where they were.
My sister then hung up on me.

I texted her the number to the state police and said she needed to call them and let them know that they got to a motel safely and let them know i wasn't prank calling them.
I was seriously about to blow a gasket. I mean they call for my help, and just don't listen to me.
Well so my mom calls me back when they are checked into a motel. She goes back over the story again.
I explain to her why I was upset.
She doesn't get it.
I explain that she disrupted my entire night, wanting my help, and then didn't listen to me. Makes me look like an idiot to Va state police, not to mention I was already IN BED, and WATCHING on of my FAVORITE SHOWS, I was also really worried about them.
She doesn't even understand that she called me 3 times today. Each time I completley DROPPED WHAT I WAS DOING TO HELP THEM.
I THINK I MORE THAN EARNED THE RIGHT TO BE A LITTLE FRUSTRATED WITH THEM.
UGH...
THEN SHE SAID (SARCASTICALLY I MIGHT ADD)
"Well I am just so sorry that i disrupted your evening, I mean we were the ones in the situation in the first place, you were warm and in your house."
YOU KNOW WHAT, IF IT WAS SUCH A PERILOUS SITUATION THAT IT WARRANTED CALLING ME AND GETTING ME TO JUMP THROUGH FREAKING FLAMING HOOPS TO TRY TO GET THEM TO SAFETY THEN THEY DANG WELL BETTER DO WHAT I SAY AND SIT STILL UNTIL HELP ARRIVES.
I AM STILL SO FREAKING MAD THAT I CAN'T EVEN THINK STRAIGHT.
Oh, and did I mention that she called several times over the week to let me know how much fun they were having. After they had invited me to go, knowing i can't just up and leave the kids for a week...yeah thanks mom.

Yep, I would have been upset too. Did they ever call the police back to let them know you weren't prank calling them?
Yeah, Apparently they met up with each other at the exit, and he led them to a comfort inn.
My whole thing is, why call and get my help if your not gonna use it. I'm really ill that i missed the rest of NCIS...lol
