These were taken in the Urgent Care Center of StonyBrook University Hospital's ER.  THEY SENT HIM HOME!

He was running a HIGH fever, throwing up, diahrrea, Conjunctivitis, swollen lymph nodes, strawberry tongue...he had EVERY SYMPTOM of Kawasaki Disease.

They ignored his screaming, telling us it was "just a virus".

They could have KILLED my son.

We had to wait five days.  Five days of him screaming, crying till he had no more voice.  Finally at LIJ the took one look at him and admitted him.

This is the face of KD.  Children can die from this disease.....this is not just a regular virus.  Please, help me bring awareness to the public eye.  Please make this post popular.  The more mom's that see this....the more people we can reach.

I would love to sue....unfortuanately unless my son died, no lawer wanted the case.  I just want attention drawn to this disease, and if it takes Travolta and Littrell to help it, so be it.

The symptoms of KD include:

HIGH fever for 5 + days (103+)

RED spots everywhere

Swollen glands, hands, and feet

Peeling of the skin and nails on the hands and feet

Strawberry-like tongue

INCONSOLABLE crying

CHILDREN CAN SHOW ALL OR ONLY ONE OR TWO SYMPTOMS!  IT IS A GREAT "MIMICKER", OFTEN MISTEAKEN FOR MEASLES, CHICKEN POX, COXSACHIE DISEASE AND SCARLET FEVER/ STREP THROAT.

This disease is Viral, it is not caused by vaccines nor is it the same as measles or Coxsackie (foot and mouth) though it is often mistakenly treated.  Antibiotics and steroids will not treat it.  IVIG and HIGH DOSE Aspirin are the only treatments.

Please read my journals and post popular......contact your local media to print CORRECT information on this disease....it is not "just a virus" it needs SERIOUS medical treatment (IVIG and HIGH DOSE ASPIRIN).  Please help me get the word out.  It seems no one in the media and not many doctors are listening.

Your poor baby!

This looks a lot like what my son had last year.  He was three at the time.  His doctor diagnosed him with Hoenlich Schoenlin Purpura.  He had most of the same symptoms as you listed.  I wonder if these two diseases are similar or related in some way?  It's very scary.

We had several relapses before it finally left his little body after six loooooooong months!!!

Thank gawd your babe is ok.  And thank you for sharing, I've never heard of that before, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Incidentally, how is KD contracted?

I had seen this the last time you posted it , and was glad you did....Why in the world would ANY hospital send a child home who looks that bad...???

Remind me NEVER to go to that hospital EVER....!!!

I would not bring my pet worm there!!!

It was your post I remembered!  I'm so glad you reposted this, as this was the first I'd ever heard of it, and I'm sure the same holds true for many other women.

TwinMomma, just a search of wikipedia tells me they are both inflammation of the blood vessels, so they are common in tht way :)

Is everything all better now that they treated him for the correct thing or is it going to come back? How common is it? How do you get it? How does it kill them, how long does that take? Sorry if I am asking a lot of questions, I am glad you found somebody that knew what the problem was, I am curious to know more of your story.  Your son is beautiful.

I work in an urgent care, and I know our dr's would have sent you to the pediatric ER. Actually, the girls at the front desk would have gotten the nurse on staff to some and look at him. Gla I don't work where ever you took him. I'd be embarrassed!

Hope he is better.
