I'm a public school teacher and i teach special need children children..example most of my students have learning disabilities, which sometimes leads to behavior problems but they need as education just like everyone else. Right now the students are on spring break but i visited the school to pick up something that i had left behind and i was informed by one of the business owners around the school that one of the other business owners have started an petition to get the school moved away from our location. She informed me that she felt like in so many words he was saying that he didn't want these low life kids around his business it was causing problem for him. I just can't believe people sometimes!!! This is the same man that we had problem with when the school first opened. he wanted to know why we were there? What kind of problems the students had, just unnecessary information. This really sadden my heart that he wouldn't take these children into consideration when starting this whole thing up. I do admit some of our students do have behavior problems and can get out of hand but he wouldn't know that we have never had a problem outside of our building as of yet so he would have no right to say that they are out of control. What bugs me so much about this is he or any of the other business owners who signed this paper haven't took the time out to learn what this program and school is all about. The students that i teach were falling behind in regular public school due to learning problem which most were not diagnosed with until they got here which made learning in a classroom with 30 to 35 students very difficult for them. In most cases there behavior problem comes from spending there life lagging behind in school and not getting the help they needed which frustrates them and leads to acting out. I always wonder if it was their children would they still feel the same way about things. AND NO!!! They wouldn't they would want the best education for there children just like my students parents want for them. I know this whole situation may just blow over because we are run by the county and it take a lot to go against the county especially since all our funding comes from them.
Sometimes people just disgust me and the things that they do and how they never think how there actions will affect my students!!!
Just Venting!!!!

I'm a sped. teacher too. More than 90% of my students fall below the poverty level in our county and we see the same type of discrimination against our kiddos. It's sad, especially since that behavior does not go unnoticed by our students and can backpedal any progress we make. :o(
it's people like that man that I have to stand up to every day. my son is Autistic... and we get comments like that. and it infuriates me to no end!!! it's not my child's fault! but he's just proving that he is the one with the problem, not the kids.
Basically what you are saying is the education system screwed up once again and let our special need children fall so far behind that they were unable to perform in a regular school setting so you had to set up a alternate school for them so they can get their education. The business owners around their do not see their special needs all they are seeing is it is not a normal public school it is alternative school for children that did not make it in a public. Screw them, I am sick to death of the no child left behind act but yet we have how many of our special need student getting left so far behind they never get caught up that a lot start acting out in school and get into trouble. If our education system would get their head out of their you know what and get the special education department what it needs to properly teach this children from the start instead of pushing them on and on until they are in middle or high and in trouble. Then oops we better do something oh it makes me so mad these business owner are so stuck on there-self if only they had one little clue had all. I better stop my head hurts lol

Apparently ignorance knows no bounds...if he's smart enough to run a business, he should have the sense to know that every child deserves the same opportunities. How would he feel if it was HIS child that needed help?
