Jesus lived on handouts while he spread the Gospel.

Hebrews 13:2  Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Matthew 22:39 And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

Hebrews 12:14 Pursue peace with everyone, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

Luke 11:41 But give from your heart to those in need,  and  then everything will be clean for you.

We are to give to others, to our church, and to our governments.

Mark 10:25 "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."

My mom used to always quote that last one to me... made me so mad. It's like she thinks I'm evil because I want a nice car and a house and won't come live with her and be her buddy-buddy.

*ssssccrreeeeech*  End personal rant.

Great journal Rebecca. Interesting how many republicans are die-hard devout Christians yet they go against so many things which Jesus taught and lived by.

Sarah you make me laugh.  I the point of the last one is more that if you value your money and things.  Not literally if you are rich.  God can bless us but if it is important more than your faith or your relationships you are missing your mark.

Mark 10:25 "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."

This one came to mind when I read that nasty quote that Sherrie re-posted.  Jesus was very clear.

I just posted this scripture on another journal on the popular list.  I think it is appropriate here too.

Matthew 25:35-40 (New International Version)

35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

I know I'm not an authority on anything Christian, but the quote that inspired my post was just wrong.  I know she's not the only one with that way of thinking.  Unfortunately.

Sherrie, I think she is in the minority.  It is a vocal minority here on Cafemom, but I hope (and pray) that most Christians do not believe that.
