They Walk Among Us

Today I was going about my work day when the lovely gentleman, whom I like so much, stopped by my cube for some meaningless conversation.  He saw a packaged cookie on my desk, that someone had brought in from South America, and commented that it was terrible.  I pointed out that "Americans' have different acquired tastes compared to other countries," to which he replied, "no, it's because America is the best; everything we do is better."  

I could hardly hold my composure.  What an arrogant thing to say!?!  I gently clarified that food and drinks taste differently depending on what Country you visit.  I explained that it has nothing to do with who does it better, but rather what you are used to.  I used Coca Cola as an example....Coke intentionally makes their product taste different depending on what County you buy it in.  If companies did not accommodate the preferred tastes of a region the demand for their product would not be as high.  This all went straight over his head as he jumped to the next pointless topic.   

This type of attitude must be why foreign countries find Americans' extremely arrogant.  I am ashamed to say that these people walk among us.

They even formulate Hershey's chocolate different in Canada!

This guy probably hasn't been outside of this country, yet feels so comfortable making a judgement call like that.  Most people who feel the same have never traveled, either.

The thing that perplexes me is that this man has a business degree.  They teach this stuff in Marketing 101.

Oh, and everyone knows that the Coca Cola from Mexico (in the tall glass bottles) taste the bestest in the whole wide world.
