The first thing I would do to change the economy is to remove the special privileges that the government officials have set up for themselves. It is one thing to have honor and respect given to you and some corresponding perks for your leadership and quite another thing to have acquired the "gravy train" for life!!!
How can we expect these officials to empathetically find a solution to the Health care problems when they themselves are on a separate program that takes care of them and theirs for life?
How can we expect them to empathecically find a solution to the Social Security disaster when they themselves are exempt from the program and have a separate and very stable program set up for themselves?
How can we expect them to empathetically find a solution to unemployment when they will never suffer that worry? (once they retire or are voted out, they are still taken care of)
200 years ago we separated from England because the monarchy could not empathetically find solutions for our well being, and we believed that we could take care of ourselves. We set up a governing body that would work IF
1. we the people took the time to pay attention to what our own governing body was doing and continually provide input
2.we the people continually strived to become an educated people who committed ourselves to putting what we have learned to the greater good of the country.
As the majority of our populace has gradually declined those two above values, we have allowed the governing body to slowly evolve into another monarchy - It hasn't yet - but that is where it is headed.
And the problem with a monarchy is the same as it was 200 years ago -
You cannot expect a ruling class to empathetically solve the problems they do not share with the people they rule.
Comments:
bring government spending to stand still, and give the tax payers back their money so they can decide how best to invest in capitalism.
Then I would end the FRS, and IRS and implement a fair tax that would only pay for Constitutional government programs.
I agree completely, but the pork has been put in by people whose pocketbooks are not hurting for doing this. They are not doing this for any sense of fairness or justice. They are doing it to win poularity - and playing a numbers game among their constituents.
And I agree about the budget! In fact, we need to teach everybody how to keep a budget. And we need to start with our children while they are young.
That is why the education of the people is so important. They need to be equipped with the knowledge of how to invest thir money successfully.
We have allowed the government to corruptly spend money because such a large amount of people have taken such a Laisse faire attitude for such a long time.
And it would create a necessity for us to rethink our own personal spending habits, and our preoccupation with fad and luxury items. We've become very comfortable with our own personal excess.
