April 20, 1995.. my mother, Iris D. Colon, lost her battle against AIDS.. She was 40 years young... She was a cherished, respected, loved, and strong woman.. Despite her sickness and the fact that a simple cold could put her in the hospital, my mother lived her final years to the fullest.. 14 years have passed, and you are still so vivid in my head... How I long for you to have been there when I graduated, got married, and gave birth.. My son smiles and I see you.. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you and your teachings... 8 years was such a short time to have with you, and though I feel cheated out of you, i thank God that he blessed me with the time i did have with you.. I strive to be a better mother everyday because of you.. I can't wait to see you again..
