temper tantrums

So my baby is 16 months and does not talk yet or seem to understand me.He throws tantrums alot and I dont know how to react or am I suppoused to let him cry it out which I have tried and he does not give it up hes def a lil fighter and def hardheaded he will throw a tantrum if he does not get his way. I know my husband did it too when he was litle and he was bad so its gef came back to haunt us. was just wondering if there was any moms out there that have had the same problem and what they did to stop it .
