Dear Miss working Mom,
The other day while at the store standing in a long line you stuck up a conversation with me. i did not mind for i don't get much adult interaction, so it was nice have someone talk to. Thank you for telling me how cute my little boy was (even as he was trying to pull all the candy down from the shelf as we were waiting) However One thing you said kind of struck sour note with me. You commented on how nice it must be that I to be SAHM and not have to work. How I am so lucky to be able to have it so easy. While I am sure that you mean this with the best of intentions I feel I must let you know how sadly misinformed you are.. do not fell bad though for you are not the only one.
So let me lay out my day for you.. or to me exact my Job decsprition...then tell me if you still think i have it so easy.
My day begins at 5 am.. while you can simply hit the snooze button on your alarm and gain 10-15 minutes more of sleep, My alarm climbed up onto my bed and is pulling my eyelids opens saying ;Mommy Im up.. Are you up?; i can only ignore this for about 30 secs before i moan yes i am up.. and try to find the remote to turn on Barney.. however I can not doze while Barney is on..NO i must answer 50 Questions about what Barney is looking at, what is on baby bops head and so on and so forth.. not to mention must sing along with every song on the show... By the time Barney is over my son sick of laying down and decides that the bed makes a much better trampoline.. thus waking up the sleeping puppy under neath it. So groggily I get up and go into the living room, where the first thing that I witness is the Lego being dumped all over the floor...
Lets fast forward now to about 830 AM. You are clocking in and making small talk with co workers.. having already had your morning cup of coffee.. Your long day at work is about to begin. By this time I have already picked up those same Lego's 6 times and banished them to the toy closet (but i doubt they will stay there long before they are drug out again) I have changed 3 pull-ups and pair a of poppy pair of underwear.. I have cleaned Mushed Banana off of the table and twice rescued a bowl cheerios from becoming doggy food. I have answered the same question 50 times already and will probably answer it about 100 more the day is over. I have also fished 5 toy cars out of the potty (no Jr the do not want to go swimming!) I have Heard that dang Wiggles CD so many times I cant get Wake up Jeff out of my head ... and this is just beginning of my day. OH not to mention we had a little accident at breakfast time and the puppy happened to be under the chair, so now we are giving the doggy a bath.. well attempting to as the bubbles are also being thrown all over my bathroom
After Breakfast i get a few minutes of quiet thanks to playhouse Disney.. I finally get to eat My now soggy bowl of Cheerios and my burnt and cold toast. Then i must clean up the mess in the kitchen and the bathroom
Fast forward again to about 100.. you are probably in the break room, eating your lunch and chatting it up with co-workers.. I finally gotmy little stinker ( i say that with the utmost love) to lay down.. I fell asleep for a few minutes but he is a wiggle worm so that did not last long. I must now go clean up my kitchen (again) I have already cleaned it from breakfast and from the finger painting endeavor (did i mention the doggy became and art board and needed another bath). Now there's food stuck in place i did not think itcould possibly go ( i was wrong) . oh and i have to vacuum the floor because part of the sandbox decided it wanted to come and live in the house. But I know i will have to again later because it will decide the same thing when we go out after Nap. And yes in winter snow like to join us too.
So as your break is ending at around 2 I finally get to sit down for some ;Me; time.. Sadly the most adult interaction I get is over a computer screen (unless we go for a walk or to the park or library and i might be lucky enough to get ot chat with some other moms for few minutes)
So By 5 you are getting home from your job, so is my child's dad.. but i don't get a break then either.. He plays with munchkin but i must make dinner, and after dinner comes cleaning up of my kitchen for the 5th time today!
Finally thought i get some adult interaction but he is kinda tired form work so he doesn't talk to much.. we all play together and I threaten to slap Daddy is he turns on that wiggles CD even one more time.
730. time for little mans bath and off to bed with him. Daddy and I read to him and cuddle for awhile then hew out til5 am tomorrow
I must again pick up those Lego's and those little people doll which seem to like to hide in the oddest places.
so while you work your 9-5 shift I ;the one who has it easy; am working a 5-9. And i do not get a promotion (unless you count an extra addition to the family) A raise ( expect for those unsolicited randomhugs and kisses) or a pay check (but those I love you mommy's sure do mean ALOT!)
Yes I do love being mom! Yes I do love spending time with my son. HOWEVER
I DO NOT LIKE IT when people think That just because i stay home i do nothing..
that is so far from the truth it is funny..
still think i got it so easy?
Sincerely,
A TIRED SAHM WHO DOES ALOT AND IS SICK OF PEOPLE NOT SEEING THAT@
Comments:
I am not a stay at home mom, i'm a single mom and i work outside the house in all places, an elementary school for kids from preschool age to 1st grade. i have a 14 yo son and my 8 yo nephew, that i'm raising, full time at home and my 6yo and 4yo grandkids 5 nights a week. i know what my day is like and there is NO way i could do what SAHM's do everyday!!! i do what i can at home during the evenings and on weekends. there is NO way i could do what you all do every day. If your financial situation allows you to stay home, good for you. But even if my finances were better, i couldn't do it. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE my children and grandchildren. But i don't envy you at all!! LOL!! YOU definitely have the most difficult, non paying, hectic, tiring, most responsible job in the world. And i, personally, APPLAUD YOU!!!
You know I sometimes just want to write this same thing down and send it to my hubby which I love with all my heart. He just does not see like many that our work day ends o wait it does'nt because here come those little cries or little feet at 3am!!!!!!
