I Just read this in my reptiles group but it does NOT affect only reptiles! It affects Birds, small mammals, rodents, FISH, snakes, lizards, and basically anything other then dogs and cats!
CONGRESS IS NOW GOING ONE STEP FURTHER AND TRYING TO BAN REPTILES< FISH BIRDS< AND SMALL MAMMALS!
THEY ARE MESSING WITH MY FAMILY! I OWN 3 reptilians and THEYA RE NOT GOIN ANYWHERE! NOT AS LONG AS I CAN HELP IT!
HOW ARE THEY TRYING TO DO THIS?
HR699! its a bill the congress is trying to pass and here are some detials:
What is HR 669?
H.R. 669 stands for House Resolution 669 and is titled "The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act". It is a bill currently before Congress that if passed will change the way that the US Government classifies animal species that are not native to the United States. H.R. 669 will make it illegal to breed and sell many animals that are very common in the pet trade.
Why should you care about HR 669?
Anyone with pet fish, birds, reptiles, or small mammals will be affected by this bill. Any company selling product or services for pet fish, birds, reptiles or small mammals will be affected by this bill. Would you be impacted by "The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act"?
- Virtually all fish in an aquarium are not native to the United States
- Most pet birds are species not native to the US
- Most reptiles kept as pets are not native to the US
- Hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and ferrets are not native to the US
What can you do to stop HR 669?
Pet owners support the concept of a risk based approach to non-native imports, unfortunately H.R. 669 as drafted does not provide a constructive way forward.
You can help by standing up and making your voice heard. Let your Representative know that you oppose H.R. 669 as drafted and the financial and/or emotional effect it will have on you, or your friends, or your family members if it passes. The link below will allow you to send an email to your Representative in Congress and even give you the option to follow up with a phone call.
PLEASE SAY NO! PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO YOUR CONGRESSMEN! THIS WILL ONLY TAKE A SECOND OF YOUR TIME! AND WILL HELP OUT MANY PETS AND OWNERS!

Comments:
This bill was written because of idiots who buy big snakes, then let them go when they get TOO big to feed affordably. Florida especially has a problem with it, because the snakes fit right in with the climate and habitat and take over, eating wildlife and becoming a danger to people. Instead of stupid federal bills like this that punish everyone, the individual states need to pass laws. Here in Indiana, you have to apply for a license before you can buy a snake that grows more than 5 feet (like pythons and boas).
This is a really stupid bill. The feds don't have any business making laws that trump our state laws. Plus, with the way it's worded, it includes all non-native animals.
Voted popular!
If you read the whole bill though, it protects the animals that are already with owners....they won't take your pets from you...they are just trying to limit the breeding and selling of exotics b/c it's so out of control in this country...Your pets are safe!
i understand that they want to limit the breeding and selling of exotic animals., and dont wont to take peoples pets, but i still dont agree with the bill. i love my little ferrets., and i dont see how they could hurt anything. even if they got loose they wouldnt survive. and fish., come on., i live in florida, the main state that has this "huge" problem and its not just people letting the pets go., when pet stores and home are destroyed during hurricanes pets get loose and thrive., we had the same problem with our gators for years. but stopping people from owning these animals isnt going to fix the problem we're already having.
yes they canty take animals.. however they can phohibit the sale of prodcts for these animals.. crickets mice, fishfood, sand heat lamps ect.. this stuff would be impssible to get and would be pretty much black market... making it ahrder to care for the pets
jrsmommy07. that thought hadnt even crossed my mind. those of us who had pets wouldnt be able to provide for them = (
This is a stupid bill and should be something the state regulates not the federal government.
I heard this. If you think about it this affects all pets since virtually domesticated dogs, cats, fish, cattle, etc are not really native to the US. And think what it will do to the food prices.
Oh another thing what happens when your pet dies? You won't be able to get another one. They amy not take the one away you have now but you will not be able to get another one.
