What is a ChaCha Guide?
ChaCha Guides are curious, professional, Internet-savvy people, just
like you, who enjoy learning new things, sharing their knowledge with
others, and being part of a fun, diverse community.
Sharp minds are important, but you do not actually have to be a
‘know-it-all’ to be a Guide. Guides may be Generalists skilled at
navigating the Web, Specialists with lots of passion and knowledge on a
particular topic, Expeditors with a knack for fast-paced puzzle
solving, or Transcribers who make ChaCha the smartest voice service in
the world.
What does a Guide do?
ChaCha Guides help answer questions from our customers. We provide
professional search training and custom tools to turbo charge the
process…you provide the brainpower to analyze the question and craft
high quality answers. Once you’re onboard as a Guide, simply log in and
work whenever you want.
How is being a Guide good for me?
....
| Flex | Work anytime you want, for as long as you want, from virtually wherever you want! (All you need is a fast Internet or WiFi.) There is no schedule, so Guiding for ChaCha can fit any lifestyle. |
| Earn | Guides get paid based on role, productivity, accuracy, and category. Contests and bonuses are available to boost earnings. Each Guide role has a different compensation system. See the specific Role pages for details. |
| Learn | Sharpen your expertise, enhance your general knowledge, gain search skills, and master the ability to answer questions concisely. Plus, get professional training from ChaCha’s own Search University. |
| Build | Guiding is an opportunity to build a reputation that can have big benefits in your life and future. Enhanced Guide profiles and Guide Ratings will make that reputation even more valuable in the coming months. |
| Shine | Be a part of a vibrant and growing community, full of diverse people who just love knowing the answers! The service you provide will not only add to your wallet, but also inform the world - one customer at a time. |
Whatever the motivation, it’s a great role for college students,
stay-at-home parents, night owls, retirees or just about anyone that
wants to spend their time truly helping others while making money. Each
of our four different Guide roles offers something special; which one
fits you?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What are the personal requirements?
ChaCha Guides must be 18+ years old, fluent in English, and have a
U.S. mailing address. Guides must be authorized to work in the U.S. and
must have a high-speed Internet connection in order to connect to
ChaCha systems. Successful Guides love researching online and have
excellent writing skills.
How and how much do I get paid?
Guides are paid on a per-transaction basis. The more efficient you
can be, the more you can make. Guides generally make $3 to $9 per hour,
though some Guides can and do earn more than that. See specific roles
for the amount of pay per transaction. Payments are made one of two
ways: via a debit card from First Internet Bank of Indiana, or via
direct deposit to your bank account once a month if your account
reaches $100 or greater.
What are the system requirements?
We recommend all Guides have a computer with a minimum of 512MB of
RAM - 1GB is ideal. Currently, Guides are required to use Firefox (a
free Web browser) and Flash. Operating Systems must be Windows, Mac, or
Linux. A high-speed connection to the Internet is also necessary.
How much am I expected to work?
Being a ChaCha Guide is one of the most flexible pursuits in the
world, making it a great position for people with active lifestyles,
existing commitments, or work limitations. There are no scheduled
commitments of time, though logging in when demand is high relative to
the Guide supply can lead to higher earnings. There is no minimum
number of hours required per week. But as with any skill, the more time
you put in, the more rewarding it will be - financially and otherwise.
ChaCha Guides who take advantage of the valuable Internet resources,
training, community interaction, and support that we provide will
increase their earning potential. The hours are yours to decide.
Will I be an employee of ChaCha?
No. You will be working for ChaCha as an independent contractor.
Guides must fill out a standard W-9 form as part of the Registration
process and prior to beginning any work.
How does registration work?
Click on the ‘Register’ button to go to the Guide Registration page
and begin the process. Registration doesn’t take long, but it does
require you to give us some information about yourself, submit a W-9
form, and pass a compatibility assessment for the specific Guide Role
you choose. Once we’ve found the right role for you, you will receive a
congratulatory email and be directed to orientation and training. After
you’ve had a chance to digest the training, you will take a “Role
Readiness Test” that confirms you’re ready to handle live customer
questions. Completing the Readiness Test will activate you as a paid
ChaCha Guide.
I am an Expeditor on ChaCha!
Expeditor
Expeditors are like the Air Traffic Controllers of the ChaCha world.
It’s your speedy, savvy work that keeps the questions flying in a
swift, orderly fashion to the right places. Whether they departed the
customer’s phone as voice or text, you are responsible for their
on-time arrival in the hands of the right Specialist. At times, you’ll
even intercept questions yourself and provide an instant answer to the
customer.
As an Expeditor, you sit at the crux of the system, converting all
incoming questions into a standard form, determining if answers already
exist, and categorizing the questions so they’re routed to the best
available Guides. We think the Expeditor role is a perfect fit for
Guides who prefer a more systematic set of tasks. Roger, that!
Requires: Strong grammar and spelling, excellent general knowledge, fast typing, quick decision-making, and strong reasoning ability.
Generalist
Generalists are the ChaCha version of the know-it-all, the
renaissance man/woman, or the resourceful friend everyone calls. You
are able to comprehend, research, and answer any question thrown at
you, regardless of subject matter.
Though you possess many of the same attributes as a Specialist, you
enjoy the thrill of the unexpected, and possess the Internet search
skills to make you seem like an expert even when you’re not. You are
resourceful with a capital “R” and enjoy helping customers while
continually learning new things.
Requires: Exceptional
Internet search skills, strong general knowledge, good grammar and
spelling, fast typing, strong reasoning ability, and sound judgment.
Specialist
Specialists research and craft answers to customer questions that
fall into areas of their particular knowledge and interests. Working
from a well formed question that the Expeditor delivers, the Specialist
blazes a fast trail on the Web to an accurate answer from an
authoritative source.
Your key distinction as a Specialist is in signing up for specific
ChaCha Categories, so that you are first in line to receive incoming
Questions that match your respective expertise. Because as a Specialist
you’re able to focus your skills and energies on answering questions of
greater familiarity, you can handle question volume faster and more
efficiently.
Requires: Specific knowledge
in chosen subject areas, exceptional Internet search skills, strong
reasoning ability, sound judgment, good grammar and spelling, fast
typing, and strong general knowledge.
Transcriber
Transcribers are the Guides who make ChaCha’s voice answer service
the absolute smartest one anywhere. As a Transcriber, you listen to the
voice questions that customers call into 1-800-2ChaCha and convert them
to text questions.
You’re knowledgeable about people, places and things, and have sharp
ears to interpret even muffled questions (possibly from a crowded
subway or noisy restaurant). In other words, you’re far better than any
computer at deducing what our customers are asking, and correctly
interpreting nuances and names. (Note: This is not like being a
telephone operator — you hear only recorded audio.)
Requires: Good ears, good
spelling, fast typing, broad general knowledge, and the smarts to
figure out what customers are really asking when they call in.
Here is how you get started. Got to http://becomeaguide.chacha.com/ Then sign up and when they ask for the email of who reffered you, you can put in my email address photophreak@ymail.com!
I have made $100 my first month and I only do it on weekends!
