This post is for mothers who vaccinate on schedule.  I don't need anyone to tell me that there is information out there that proves vaccines are dangerous.  I have done my research very thoroughly and I have come to the conclusion that it is best for my children to have vaccinations on time and on the schedule that our pediatrician recommends.

Caleb is almost 8 months old.  At his 6 month checkup, he was a little on the congested side.  He was not running a fever and appeared to have a minor cold.  I went into the doc's office thinking that we may hold off on his 6 month shots because of his cold.  I asked my doc about it and he recommended that I go ahead and get the shots because holding off is just for children who are pretty ill and have fevers.  He said Caleb wasn't ill enough for him to hold them off.   I felt peace about it after he told me that so we went on to have the shots.  Fast forward not even two months later and we have been to the doc's office 4 times with minor colds, low grade fevers, cough, congestion, etc.  If I would have followed my motherly instinct, we would have held off on the 6 month shots.  He was not well enough.

I just want to put this out there so that any mother who thinks that their children needs to hold off because of them having a cold, you are probably thinking right.  They need to be 100% well.  Caleb is not a sickly child either.  Before this, he was well and we've only been once to the doc for a sick visit.  I am convinced that he did not need the shots at the time he got them.

Just follow your motherly instinct over even your pediatrician's.  The shots lower their immune systems so they do not need to be around sick children for about a week.  Also, as I said above they need to be 100% well.  Not even a runny nose unless it has been something chronic for them.  If this journal helps one person, I will be happy with using my time to write this journal.

I get that ped's are afraid that if you skip or delay the shots,  you won't be back to make them up.  BUT....you as the mom have the right to delay them if you feel uncomfortable about it. Follow your gut.

Apr. 27, 2009 at 9:08 PM Kids get sick, a lot, so it's hard to know if what your son went through was ALL specifically because of the shot.

That being said, my doc has always rescheduled them if my kid was sick at the time...so I think your advice is very sound.

My child had a fever and we held off. My pedi had no problem with it. It stinks that yours didn't respect your concerns.

This is actually in the contraindications of each vaccine.  they should not be vaccinated while they are sick.  I agree, do not let your ped do this!  Make sure they know the child is sick, and you will come back.
