I spent the half the night packing the bags and am almost completely done, so I finally have enough time to write about the plans for our European Vacation in detail. The only things I need to pack still are the things we need for the morning.
We leave here tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm, since the flight is a charter we need to be at the airport 3 hours in advance, but since it is the kid's first time flying, it should be no problem to keep them amused for a couple of hours in the airport. I have a "tradition" regarding flying...I am an avid reader, but usually only buy second hand books, seeing as I read 3 or 4 a week, a New book habit would be outrageously expensive. But any time I fly, I always spend a good deal of my "airport time" browsing a newsstand for a new book, and so we will continue the tradition with the kids and I am sure that we will kill most of the time allotted to us picking them out.
The flight leaves at 9:40 pm and hopefully the kids will sleep for most of it. We arrive in Gatwick airport at 8 am, and have a rental van booked for our drive up to Newcastle. The only reason we are going way up there was a miscommunication with my friend the travel agent. Originally we planned to go first to Denmark via the P&O ferry that departs from just outside London, but then we heard from DH's relatives in Ulm and they were going on vacation on the 10th of May for 2 weeks, so we needed to visit there first. I called up my friend and asked if there was a ferry to Amsterdam, and didn't think to check WHERE it departed from LOL.
We depart from Newcastle at 5 pm, have dinner aboard the ship and then go to sleep rocked by the ocean. The next day we arrive at 9 am in Amsterdam, and stay at this hotel. Depending on the weather, we will either take a canal tour or take the kids to the TunFun (click here if you want to see the map). We also plan on going to the Anne Frank House.
At 4:30 pm the next day, we board the train on our way to Trier where we will stay with relatives for a few days, leaving by rental van on May 4th in order to visit some clients on the way to Ulm where we will stay for 5 days.
I will have to come back and write more about the next leg to Italy when I finish repacking...one of the bags is 7 kg overweight....arrrrrgh!

Good luck with the bags. It can get frustrating when you have everything packed just the way you like it only to realize it is over.
Your trip sounds like a blast and can't wait to see pictures and hear about the rest of the trip!
