I had a very rough night trying to sleep last night. I was having a lot of contractions that were painful enough to keep me awake. (I'm 32 weeks) Not anything that I could say "I am in labor" but bad enough that I was pretty concerned. Had we had somewhere that we could have taken the kids in the middle of the night, I probably would have woken Daniel but I just didn't know what to do. So I made it through the night but I almost didn't sleep at all. When I got up to get Abi ready for school this morning, I still felt pretty bad. Again, nothing definite but I really just didn't know what to do. Longer story shorter, I ended up calling my doctor's office and they told me to go to the hospital right away. IF I was experiencing preterm labor, it was important to stop it sooner rather than later. So my mother-in-law took Abigail to school and then came back, took me to the hospital and then stayed with this kids.
They hooked me up to monitors and started pushing fluids. (I hadn't drank or eaten anything yet because I had been too busy getting kids ready and yadda yadda yadda.) The contractions had slowed down significantly, yet, I was still registering varying degrees of contractions every 1-2 minutes. They sent me for an ultrasound to check to see if my cervix was thinning and fortunately it is not. That is good. BUT, while I was there, contractions starting picking up again and started registering as more painful. So, they gave me an injection to relax my uterus which made me feel horrid for several hours afterwards. They also gave me a steroid injection to help the babies' lungs develop more quickly just in case I would happen to go into labor and they can't stop it. I have to go back to the hospital for another steroid injection tomorrow. (BTW - I could never be an athlete that was shooting up! Steroid injection=OUCH!!!) Plus, I'm now taking oral medication to relax my uterus from now through week 36, assuming I make it that far. And, obviously, I'm supposed to "take it easy" which kind of cracks me up. If the contractions I was having today that they were monitoring were of concern, they would really freak out if they could monitor my contractions that I have whenever I do ANYTHING, including just walking across the room.
So, there we are. Daniel came home from work today and is staying home tomorrow just to keep an eye on me. He'll have to go back to work on Wednesday. But I thought I would let you all know what happened today.
If you are a praying person, I REALLY need to make it another 2 weeks.
Comments:
That happened to me but I was 26 weeks... I was actually 2 1/2cm by the time I got there. But they got the labor stopped and I was on basic bedrest til I had her at 38 weeks. I wish you and that sweet LO the best of luck!!!
Praying!!! I'll specifically pray for at least 2 more weeks! Hang in there!
