my life, in words

A little over a month ago,. my son told me that he had walked up on a neighborhood kid raping a nine year old girl, who was my son's friend.  The boy  is 14.  So they started an investigation and last week an investigator called us wanting us to bring Elijah to the child advocacy center to 'interview' Eli about what he had seen.  In my heart, since the first time Eli told me all this, I hoped him and Baylin (the little girl) had made this story up for attention or something.  Baylin's mom called me after Eli went to his school principal and the story was out and we talked, and some of the things she said lead me to believe that maybe an actual rape had not occured.  I feel ashamed but i didn't call her after that, I didn't know what to say and we didn't talk on the phone before all this happened so,. anyways, I'm probably not making a whole lot've sense.  So we took Eli today to the advocacy center and the investigator pretty much confirmed that Baylin had been raped, and that he was sure she wasn't the only victim.  My heart is broken.   This girl is nine years old.  Iv'e tried my best to keep my kids safe and now I'm so glad I don't let my kids walk around, even in this extremely 'safe' neighborhood in a no stop light town,.the social worker said I should be relieved - one of my girls is Baylin's age and they were sure if we had not kept them close to the vest she (or any of my girls) could've been victimized by this boy,. but I just want to cry.  Nine years old.  Please pray for this family, and pray for Eli.

Apr. 28, 2009 at 9:00 AM I hope they get her help and your son may also need help in processing what he saw. When I was 19, and in my first apartment, I was taking garbage to the big dumpster when I heard a scream and saw a boy, around 12, run pulling up his pants. A 4 year old girl was sent to throw a small bag of garbage out (i know, i know) and her mom was watching from a 2nd floor window. A boy in the area saw and ran and leapt on her and within seconds had her dress up and panties down and was taking his pants down. The mom saw this and screamed and I arrived at the same time. A search of the apartments did not yield the child. I imagine he had severe problems and likely offended before and after.

My heart goes out to all those involved. This boy needs some serious therapy, help, and so does the little girl. Bless her soul.

Your son should seek therapy as well. He witnessed something horrible.

Your son did the right thing by telling you.  Be proud of him Momma--your lessons about being a good person are paying off.  He made the right choice.  I agree with julie.rocks, check into some counseling for him--this is tramatic to witness and he may be a bit frightened of retribution from others.

Good luck and good job!

(ps--Call the girl's mom--she could probably use some support too)
