Media; the real Swine

OK I'm not a Doctor nor do I play one on TV, ... so I won't presume that I know anything more than most of the general public knows about this illness. But, what I do know is that the Swine Flu really might turn into pandemic [a word they use over and over and over], but right now.. it isn't. Sooooooo in using that word again and again and scaring people isn't getting the so called "word out"... its just propaganda until something really happens!! Flu kills people all over this world, that's just the way it is. I lost a dear friend years ago to pneumonia; an illness that is usually treated with plain old antibiotics!
~In the meantime, I turn on my computer or the TV and there it is again, being shoved down our throats until they are choking us with utter fear!! And now they're saying how its effecting our already badly beaten economy. Umm... excuse me?.... Ya think its cause you're freaking everyone out!?!?!?
I understand being concerned and cautious like our President said earlier tonight, it isn't time to quarantine ourselves on this one yet....... And I'm with him on another point; don't panic. But as parents, that's what we do; we worry. And of course this media does not help. I just wish someone with a pencil and a desk job at the Associated Press would try a new take on things with promoting awareness WITHOUT the ever controlling presence and manipulation of fear!!!!!

I love you for this! My hubby and I had a conversation about this last night and I feel the same way. It's really ridiculous. It's true that people die of the regular flu every single year, but I have a 10 month old. I worry. But all I can do is be cautious and wise about hygiene for my whole family and keep eating healthy. This media circus is really just getting old.

THANK YOU! I think you just became the voice of every stressed out mother on the planet! My family lives about an hour away from the Mexican border and have to wake up everyday to the worry of this swine flu possibly infecting our area...it's so aggravating trying to get honest, helpful information from the media when all they want to do is scare everyone. Well said sweetie! I agree 100%. What the media needs to do is use their power to EDUCATE not freak us out. Panicking and worrying about anything, not just this, won't do any good but make you crazy with fear. People need to just chill out and just take care of themselves and be cautious. Enough said. :)
