So the other day I read a great tip in the Unity Magazine about a few ways to be more grateful for our blessings. And I thought it was a really wonderful idea because we/I often forget to stay focused in the here and now. I know I spend so much time NOT paying attention to the blessings I receive every moment.
So the idea is basically to really pay attention to every little great thing that happens during the day. The magazine article suggested writing it down if it will help us to stay focused. Well, I used to try remembering all the great things at the end of the day but my memory just is not that great. In fact, yesterday, when I first thought about this idea, I was literally "going nuts" trying to not forget all the great events. Besides, when it's time to go to bed I'm not interested in putting pen to paper.
So the idea is to jot down each "event" as it happens. Well, I tell you what, I really didn't have the time to find something to record in before I started my day yesterday but I sure wish I had. Just mentally taking note of all the "go(o)d stuff" seemed to just send me more "go(o)d stuff".
This is what I could remember from yesterday...
Saturday blessings included:
*More time with Ron (my hubby).
*Fresh clean yard after Ron mowed the lawn and I had cleaned out the "dead stuff" from my garden Friday.
*Beautiful sunny day.
*Safe drive to the plant nursery with my kids, Cheyenne (4) and Kyle (6).
*Happy to meet up with my mom and her SO, Steve at the nursery.
*My mom gave me two new books (one for kids and one for me), a large bulletin board for our office, a large plastic bin that I can use for plants, and some empty t.p. rolls that I've been using for seedlings. ~No cost to me~
*I found some wonderful healthy plants (flowers, veggies, fruit plants, and herbs) for my yard at low prices and I still had money left over. I filled up my trunk with plants!!
*I was VERY happy about how much Kyle and Cheyenne enjoyed their visit to the nursery. They were so intrigued by the colors and the many varieties.
*We got separated from Cheyenne for about a minute and I was so grateful to find her again quickly and easily. She was a little frightened but it was good to hold her again and know she was safe.
*I was very thankful for my/our new car since it had plenty of room for me to put the plants.
*While my mom, Steve and I were standing by their vehicle discussing our next plan, a worker came by on his forklift and offered each of us two free plants. Yes, I got two FREE plants!
*Kyle and Cheyenne also were extremely excited about watching the airplanes take off as we traveled so close to the airport on our way home. I was so grateful that the planes were going up JUST as we were driving by.
*We stopped at a couple garage sales (which I LOVE) and I got a t-shirt for Kyle for 75c, a mug with cows on it (my daughter, Corissa loves cows) for 25c, some wallpapering with sunflowers on it to do the back door entry for $3.00, and a little decoration piece with Sunflowers for $1.00. I so love Sunflowers!
>>>And that was all before 2:00 p.m. Yes, there was more that happened just on that one day. Try this and see how many wonderful things happen to you during the day!!

Wow! You know what is so funny? I just watched a sermon on this too! I love recurrent themes. It really hits the message home. The pastor I was watching said to write a list at the end of the day of all the good things that happened. Like you, my memory is fried at the end of the day so I am going to carry around a small notebook and jot them down as they happen. This is going to be a great reminder of the good things that happen since all too often we focus on the negative.
Another thing I have found is that it is relatively easy to flip most bad situation around. You just have to look at them from a different perspective. Thanks for sharing!
