Someone wrote this in a post on racism....everyone was behaving, and no one was starting anything until she joined.  I am sorry but I find her comments (especially the one highlighted in purple) to be racist and stereotyping.  Could she be more rude?  I have NEVER introduced someone by their color, race, or religion.  EVER.  Yet because I am white, she ASSUMES that I have?

GRRRR!

My family is very mixed, and some can pass as white. Sometimes ppl will behave more racist when they think no one is watching. My mother looks White and when she lived and worked in Texas her Co Workers thought she was White and they  would make remarks about other Blacks and other races and ect..

It was a whole year before they realized she wasn't White. A co worker came to her and said she heard a crazy rumor that my mom was Black. And my mom laughed back said " Isn't it funny how crazy the truth can sound?" After that her coworkers were embarassed  about all the things they let slip in her presence and pretty much avoided her afterwards.

I think White ppl will always say its not that bad intil they incounter a small bit of reverse racism in their lives. I'm glad that I'm not White looking like my mother, sometimes I get your pretty to be Black from white ppl.

I'm from the suburbs of Washington D.C but in my adult life I've lived in parts of New England all the way the Georgia and in between. And every State has racism but different ways of showing it. I know that I will usually always be that token Black person in the community, and that because of my mixed heritage I dont give off that scary stereotype vibes, so in some ways I'll be invited in to a lot of circles because of it.

I know just because I'm in this book club or whatever group that I do get reminders I am the outsider. Because whenever I get introduced my race is always mentioned with some positive attribute example...

My White friend was on the phone with another White girlfriend who asked who was all going to attend a Baby Shower? And my friend said " Sarah, Maria from down the road, Trisha, Candace, and Reda (ME) she's black but she's really sweet and funny and I think you may like her."

See thats racist, its not the lynch a Black person racist but it is. And Whites do it all the time with minorities. Whites say my Puerto Rican friend, my Asian professor, my Indian coworker. And the reason why this is done is to convey a particular understanding with another White person. They may want to convey a understood stereotype about that person. Or as I said above with my White friend they may want your race to be known to another White person that your ok eventhough your a minority.

ALL WHITE PPL ARE GUILTY OF THIS RACIST TABOO. THINK ABOUT IT, WHAT IF FOR A WHOLE DAY YOU WENT AROUND AND INTRODUCED YOURSELF, YOUR SPOUSE, AND WHITE FRIENDS AND FAMILY BY THEIR RACE.

FOR ONE DAY YOUR TALKING TO OTHER WHITE PPL AND YOU SAY MY WHITE HUSBAND BILL, AND THAT YOU HAPPENED TO BUMP INTO YOUR OLD WHITE FRIEND SUSIE. OTHER WHITE PPL WOULD LOOK AT YOU AS IF YOU WERE CRAZY. BUT THEY NEVER FLINCHED OR BAT AN EYE IF YOU WERE TO MENTION YOUR DAUGHTERS MEXICAN TEACHER MISS LOURDES. THAT ANOTHER WHITE PERSON CAN EXCEPT.

THIS COMMON THREAD EXSIT AMOUNG ALL WHITE PPL NO MATTER WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN. AND I ONLY HAD ONE WHITE FRIEND TRY THIS EXERSICE. AND SHE SAID IT FELT WIERD ANNOUNCING THAT ANOTHER WHITE PERSON AS BEING WHITE. AND MY RESPONSE TO HER WAS ,"WELL, THATS WHAT ITS LIKE FOR EVERY MINORITY, TO HAVE YOUR RACE ANNOUNCED BEFORE YOUR CHARCTER IN EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE. AND THEN HAVING TO PRETEND ITS NOT TRUE."

I'm not saying that all white ppl are going around spouting the N word and all. I happen to love my White gradparents and aunts and all.

But all White do understand how race is important and how minorities are viewed by their own race and community.

I had some of my White  realatives try out that excersise for a week. And they were all in denial over it, but it wasn't intil they tried this exercise did they even get a clue to "Implied Racism " was. Or realize how comfortable they were with titling a minorities race but odd they felt labeling another White persons race.

I asked them to keep a journal for a week of the experience and when they did choose to mention a person race was it emply that the person lived up to that stereotype? That they were an ok person and a exceptional credit to their race? Or did they do it and not really understand why? And they didn't realize how much they were guilty of this.

No goes around saying Michael Phelps is a credit to his White race for winning at the Olympics. People would think that sounded odd or Racist if that were printed and Blacks would be pissed off because they would read that as White ppl think they are better than Blacks. But to say that Tiger Woods is a credit to his race for his Golfing abilities isnt seen as racist and even Blacks are accepting of this. And why is this ? Because of the implied racism that Blacks aren't exceptional in what they do , so thats why its pointed out in Tiger Woods.

IF IM WRONG ABOUT THIS PLEASE POINT OUT TO ME HOW I AM ?
